I need some promo ideas on this..
So there's this very talented artist who is a friend, her band is going to release their second record. I'd really like to help promote it in a big way. Any ideas on how to make a really huge splash for a basically unknown band?

Well,
If they upload here at IMP, and once I know wich artist to look for, I could " Desperado " (i.e. - promo) them on various stations.

If I had any clue, I would be selling a whole lot more records and have a whole lot more folks at my shows.

Not sure that promoting on IMP helps. I can't remember the last time that there was any movement in the top 20 of the play charts. People don't seem to be listening much.

That's actually out-of-order, making a fix on that that should be done by tomorrow.

Claim a few of the members are some more of Macca's unacknowledged children?
That should get a few extra clicks.

Quite serious actually. Someone should have rounded up the entire unofficial brood years ago and formed a band called "The McCartneys", and they would have sold some records. Philip's voice is supposed to be as good as his dad's so he would be on lead vocals. Michelle on bass with lead and backing vocals also, Bettina either on keys or drums and the others would fill in the rest of the spaces.
Of course Paul himself would get to bid on managerial rights if he chose, and it would cost him.., I'd say about 30 mil. divided equally among all the siblings might get the project shelved, and that would serve the bastard right.

No I wasn't joking, just hoped to find something new to offer, so I went back to the basics I suppose.

Not to change the subject but maybe it's time to think out of the box as far as the promo stuff goes? For example.., reality TV is still fertile ground if you have a good enough idea. One possibility is to explore the lives of Monks living in some secluded Monastery who have all taken a vow of silence? (Maybe not my best idea..) Or going behind the lines in Afghanistan to find out how the Mujahideen really feels about drive-in movies, surfing & Britney Spears? (Probably not the best idea either..)
I got it.. A reality shows series called "The McCartney Family Reunion". You could introduce the audience to the extended members of Macca's family with an alternative theme interspersed throughout the main plot featuring a struggling indie group. (The band you want to promote..)
The idea is to examine the lives of all the forgotten members, learn all about their personal lives and struggles, bring them together one by one that would build up to the final episode of the entire family all invited for their now long over-due re-union. And I have no doubt the happiest camper of them all would be Paul himself when you could ask him if the band your promoting could be his opening act on his next tour.., I'm sure he would say yes. (Now that would be some real promotion..)
But if for some odd reason he's not to thrilled with the project sell him the rights to the show for 50 mil, take 10% of the top and split the rest evenly among the unwelcomed offspring but only again on the condition this band your promoting is still his opening act for future tours..
There ya go.., mission accomplished.

well, not sure the specifics of this would relate to the situation i'm working with, but this is the kind of idea i was seeking. What kind of big demonstration could penetrate the masses?

Well Scott, when I concocted the "Sterling30" scheme about 20 years back, I floated the idea of a low budget movie dealing with various members, studio recording scenes with an ending of hopefully a live performance at this place called "The Eastown Theatre" that had been closed since 1975 but urban explorers were getting into. The place had all the big acts in the past play so outside of a few homeless people I knew, there wouldn't have been an audience and we'd have to be in and out in a matter of a few hours and hopefully not be detected, so there was a certain element of danger in pulling this off. But alas, no one was very enthusiastic about this other than myself so it didn't happen..., but it may have been a very good promo tool at that time had it did.
Maybe something similar could be effective? I wouldn't suggest a dilapidated rock hall for a venue but maybe look into booking a small theater with some students from a local college studying cinematography helping out? Go fund me might help raise some of the other costs involved as well? Might be worth looking into..

Speaking of dilapidated rock halls, this was recorded as what is left of the Michigan Theatre by the Nice Device, one of my favorite indie bands when they were happening..

Sorry Scott. Been on the road. I mentioned this once before. IMP is built to make things happen. We have many built in playlists. Stations. Playlists drive the entire scene on spotify and everywhere online. Get this community to flood sites with playlists. Just a thought. I think it's a good one
