I for one have many ways of doing it.

The most recent way lately is to check out how many stations are playing any given artist.

Example: yesterday I was checking out the one artist and noticed I was the only station playing this artist. Then proceeded to add a second song from said artist. Lo and behold, I notice today that a second station is now playing this artist. Exposure, exposure, exposure.

Station managers, take the risk. It is for the benefit of the artist.

Good Question

Some from new songs, check out the flavor of the day, but go after certain songs that fit the hard rocking genre ,such as Smash, so it meets a specific criteria. others I scour about from artists I have known about for many years here at IMP (formerly iacmusic) others are in the vault so to speak of tunes from past that I have on stations like the eYe 2 or Music is truth 2 .some of us have ..I do a lot of listening as many statino managers do, some tunes just hit you a certain way, and it doesnt have to meet a genre based thing. Sometimes I will add a song here and there on occasion and if I have more time I will add a slew of them , for instance ones that I resurrect from the past , it depends on the mood I am in.

not to do with your question directly with choosing tracks here but in some ways I feel it influences me

I have also a roster of artists that I have promoted for many years via Voodoohead Productions who are here, whom I feature, not all, but some.....some are here at IMP by there own choosing others are not.some I have uploaded songs when I am promoting them, depends, I have to get permission of course to do that, on their behalf. not everyone I promote or have worked with are at IMP. Recently I saw that John Pippus added his song Crush the Fear, I know of his work and added him immediately , he is also one of the many artists I have worked with in my promotion company

Depending on my time. and I do devote a fair amount here when possible besides the other music activities I am involved with. Not everyone has a plan for how they choose songs, although some have genre based stations, and probably are more organized then me, for me I guess its a feeling, motivated by ones own personal taste obviously. not all songs are going to have top drawer production, but have a lot of potential, or character or are unique in their own way. mostly its about what they sing about, the message, how it makes one feel. there are a lot of intangibles.

ok, hope that helps

DR, have you looked at the Station Mash yet? That's one of my favorite pages on the site. Also there's a Station Adds page which can be reached via the top menu on the front page, that one is helpful too.

Bryon, it does help in that it feeds my curiosity.

In the end my basic rule for adding a track is that if I see the horses run, gallop, or even at a standstill for a breather, then the track is in.
