Interesting comment Neil "dry" yes I guess it is dry and not interesting to be aware of these changes going on throughout the music industry. many people who want to get recognized fail to really use the tools that are out there to further their opportunities. Getting knowledge of how things work in this music industry in this day and age is critical, this ever changing landscape, if one wants to understand the methods and the many facets of the new way of doing business and getting ones product out there, you better be well armed with the know how, and study, read, delve into the ways of how things are , and of how make some shekels and build contacts, relationships and expand ones knowledge base perhaps boring to many performers of music projects
Its one thing to do a project, record something, throw it out there to be discovered, that thinking is foolish, wont happen, or rarely does, whatever you do, you better be bracing yourself for disappointment. As for getting ones songs out there, it is a cluttered mess of flotsam and junk floating on the ocean of songs drifting about, , yes, do your thing, get your songs happening, but remember ,its another to market it.
No easy way about it, posting ones songs here or anywhere wont cut it. its an ocean of artists , as one former IMP artist resident said to me on FB, "throw me a life preserver, I am drowning!!" yes, drowning in a sea of a veritable avalanche cascading down the mountain of songs that are well below the quality of what we used to hear ,finding ones niche is the thing, that is key, now some are capable of doing many styles and genre, and are successful, getting on jingles, movie soundtracks, and focus their energies on that end of things, because breaking onto the scene in radio like the "old" days is dead and gone. The new radio is seeming to be the streaming end of it, one can do decent on streaming platforms, but again that takes time and effort shopping your songs to the curators of stations who run them on the big boy platforms.
It takes a multi-faceted effort to be able to get traction in the various music opportunities out there and one can earn a decent living but learning the trade and how things work is key, like i said here on the pipeline, it is a matter of investing yourself and using your time wisely. Study of what is going on in the music industry, find ways and means to help yourself ,cause no one else really cares, they just are interested in their own little world, oh yes there are a few that are willing to educate your endeavors and help you find your way through the cluttered ocean of people who are aspiring to be the next big thing!!
Have a nice day, and plug away. enjoy the challenges, rise to the occasion, get behind yourself and enjoy the ride, its kinda bumpy these days!
