The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Music Modernization Act (H.R. 5447) by a unanimous vote - 415-0.
Recent news on what has been going on of late to modernize the current outdated music licensing law

"Dear SoundExchange Family,

Our industry made history yesterday. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Music Modernization Act (H.R. 5447) by a unanimous vote - 415-0.

Never have we seen such consensus on an issue of such importance to music creators, and the bipartisan support that we witnessed in the House sends a clear message as music licensing reform moves to the Senate. This bill benefits music creators by:

Providing federal protection for sound recordings created prior to 1972 - this is an issue SoundExchange has advocated for on behalf of our artists and rights holders for nearly a decade;
Helping producers and engineers by formalizing SoundExchange's long-time practice of honoring letters of direction from artists who opt to share royalties with other creative participants;
Creating a new collective modeled in large part after SoundExchange to manage digital mechanical rights for music publishers, songwriters and digital service providers;
Establishing a willing buyer / willing seller, marketplace-based standard when rates are set;
Providing for significant changes in the way the courts overseeing the rate setting activities of ASCAP and BMI operate.

Now it's time for the Senate to act. We need your help. Please contact your Senator and ask them to support a comprehensive Music Modernization Act package like the one approved by lawmakers in the House.

We are so close to fixing some of our nation's outdated music licensing laws. We are so close to guaranteeing that legacy artists are protected by federal copyright laws and fairly compensated for the use of their music. While not the end of our journey, this is a huge step forward that we all helped make happen.

Make your voice heard so we can make history again.

Yours in Music,

Michael Huppe
President and CEO, SoundExchange"

Thanks for posting this, Bryon.

The "dry" part of the music business is often the least interesting but not one to be overlooked in terms of one's best or long term interest.

Interesting comment Neil "dry" yes I guess it is dry and not interesting to be aware of these changes going on throughout the music industry. many people who want to get recognized fail to really use the tools that are out there to further their opportunities. Getting knowledge of how things work in this music industry in this day and age is critical, this ever changing landscape, if one wants to understand the methods and the many facets of the new way of doing business and getting ones product out there, you better be well armed with the know how, and study, read, delve into the ways of how things are , and of how make some shekels and build contacts, relationships and expand ones knowledge base perhaps boring to many performers of music projects

Its one thing to do a project, record something,throw it out there to be discovered, that thinking is foolish, wont happen, or rarely does, whatever you do, you better be bracing yourself for disappointment.As for getting ones songs out there, it is a cluttered mess of flotsam and junk floating on the ocean of songs drifting about, , yes, do your thing, get your songs happening, but remember ,its another to market it.

No easy way about it, posting ones songs here or anywhere wont cut it. its an ocean of artists , as one former IMP artist resident said to me on FB, "throw me a life preserver, I am drowning!!" yes, drowning in a sea of a veritable avalanche cascading down the mountain of songs that are well below the quality of what we used to hear ,finding ones niche is the thing,that is key, now some are capable of doing many styles and genre, and are successful,getting on jingles, movie soundtracks, and focus their energies on that end of things, because breaking onto the scene in radio like the "old" days is dead and gone. The new radio is seeming to be the streaming end of it, one can do decent on streaming platforms, but again that takes time and effort shopping your songs to the curators of stations who run them on the big boy platforms.

It takes a multi-faceted effort to be able to get traction in the various music opportunities out there and one can earn a decent living but learning the trade and how things work is key, like i said here on the pipeline, it is a matter of investing yourself and using your time wisely. Study of what is going on in the music industry, find ways and means to help yourself ,cause no one else really cares, they just are interested in their own little world, oh yes there are a few that are willing to educate your endeavors and help you find your way through the cluttered ocean of people who are aspiring to be the next big thing!!

Have a nice day, and plug away. enjoy the challenges, rise to the occasion, get behind yourself and enjoy the ride, its kinda bumpy these days!

I couldn't agree more, Bryon, and while you went on to elaborate further regarding the challenges facing artists in today's world of music, that's pretty much the essence of what I said and meant in my words, "not to be overlooked in one's best or long term interest" - for those truly serious about meeting the challenges and rising to the occasion, that is.

Yes, by all means as you said, "get behind yourself" ... and get behind the wheel. It's the only way to enjoy the ride!!

Have a great weekend.
