The 2016 Golden Kayak Awards are here! Please read, everybody..

ok the first thing you need to know about the 2016 Golden Kayak Awards is we're basically doing it identically to how we did it before. The only difference is, because of the genre distributions of songs uploaded this last year, we're expanding the genre categories by 1. We're still combining genres that didn't have a lot of songs.

I'll say upfront that just as it is patriotic to participate when your country has a national election, I implore you to do your part for indiekind. It may not be the most pleasant thing for you to contemplate who amongst your peers had good songs in this past year but we ask you to spend a little energy, whatever you can spare, chiming in for this worthwhile cause. As far as we know it's the only indie awards show of this kind and I feel it's the best and most real one because the results are generated by the artists themselves, a society we call the IAIA - International Academy of Independent Artists.

Eligibility - Anyone who was a member up to the time this was published/emailed can send one nomination email (and one vote email once the ballot comes out). If you have multiple pages you can still only send one of each. It helps if you use the email listed as your contact email to send so we can verify. We're also sending a bulk email out on this with basically the same info contained in this post.

Songs eligible are those that were uploaded between 12-1-15 and 11-10-16. You can tell if a song is eligible by going to that song's songpage and to the right it will say when the song was created on the site. If you nominate songs that are outside the eligibility period, those songs will not be eligible to make the final ballot.

Anyway you can nominate one item in each of 26 categories, Cut and paste the list below and put your member name at the top so we can easily check eligibility. No member name, we don't process. You can't nominate any song you took part in creating and any song I'm involved in is ineligible as well. We ask that you don't fill your nominations with a list of your friends but rather let quality of song be the criteria. Put the name of song and the name of artist in the appropriate genre. In combined categories like Ambient and Classical, you can nominate one song for either category but not both. You can leave some of the categories blank if you want in your nominations email.

Send your nominations email to indiemusicpeople2@gmail.com, they must be in by 12 AM PST 12-11-16.

Send your nominations email to indiemusicpeople2@gmail.com, they must be in by 12 AM PST 12-11-16.

Genres used must be main genres that artist chose. If you see an odd genre, hold cursor over that and you'll see the main genre you're working with.

When nominations are all in (by Dec 11th), a ballot will be created, probably by 1-1-17 at latest. Musicology Dept. will help with this as there will be many songs with just one nomination. Each category on the ballot will have 4 to 7 songs in it. Then you will have 2 weeks to vote for whoever.
Simultaneously, there will be a Kayak Song of the Year Tourney, a poll on the front page, between the various songs that have been #1 on Kayak Big 25 since Dec 1st of 2015.

Any weird shit like songs where the artist changes genres in the middle or ballots we can't verify and so on will be thrown out of the competition.

If there is a final tie in the voting (on final ballot), there's no tie-breaker, both or all 3 songs will get the Kayak.

When competition is done there will be an awards radio show to announce the winners which will also be provided to our affiliate stations. There are no prizes except for a banner on your page and a permanent listing on the Golden Kayak Wall of Fame. The results and radio show will deliver a substantial amount of exposure to the winners. The tentative date for the awards show is January 10th but that is subject to change.

Any questions?

Ken,
don't you mean,
"This message brought to you by you know who"?

"this" as opposed to "the"....
just curious...........

Pretty also curious, how you managed to post twice,
like, not even a split second later. It just did two of 'em.

Will it get folks to vote for you? Judos Kudos if it does.
Just in case, I'm trying so throw my face in here, at least once.
Twice is pushing it in my case even if I come back in the BEATLESEX account.

Hey, whatever.
Very possible, if I do come up with something brilliant,
well it's past the entry date for it anyway.
Plus, I don't seem to have the audience I used to,
which either implies I suck, or, I've lost them for some other reason.
Like I talk too much for one thing.
And maybe have had an inflated opinion of what it is I do, for too long.
I know I have talent, sometimes, I impress myself.
But that ain't enough.

Maybe I'll just do it for myself.
Make ONLY records That I Want To Hear,

and then, never put 'em out!

Haha.

But, Why Not...

Let's give him a plug.

EVERYBODY VOTE FOR KEN of Two Silo Complex.

What.

Why?

Because I'm big, large, scary,
just the person you come to when you need to kick somebody's ass,
and I said so.

Have a good one.

I was just checking the eligibility of songs I might nominate

I'm probably being bird-brained here but from 12th Jan 2015 to 11th October 2016 is way more that 12 months so where have I gone wrong?

Also what if the Station Master is anonymous/unknown ?

12-1 is December 1st.

At IMP the station masters can stay anon but they may not get nominated if nobody knows who they are.

It is confusing Birdy. The date on my pc shows 19/11/2016 so I guess tomorrow will be the 12th of Never in USA :)

Going off topic somewhat but Beatlesex responding to the 12th of Never ref inspired me to go check out who wrote and recorded that lovely song. Originally recorded by Johnny Mathis, then Elvis made it famous but you wouldn't believe how many folks had covered it, I think ever artist worth their salt has included it on an album... I wonder who here at IMP has had a go???

Hmm. Sounds like a bit of a challenge there, Jaws my good friend.

Have you got one? A 12th of Never one then?

Tell you what, I'll do one, if you'll do one, deal?
Any guidelines other than 'let's seriously go for doing decent versions of it'
is to be left up to the artist's discretion. Whatta ya say.

You read my mind, not sure what the copyright is on it and I'd have to lift the pitch but I love a challenge. Working on something else right now but watch this space, knowing me, knowing you, I'm sure it won't be long.

Also, I just got this from wiki:

The song was written by Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis Webster, the tune (except for the bridge) being adapted from "The Riddle Song" (also known as "I Gave My Love a Cherry"), an old English folk song. Mathis's original version reached number 9 on what is now called the Billboard Hot 100 in the USA in 1957. A version by Cliff Richard was released in 1964 and reached number 8 in the UK.

Copyright 1957 ~ Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis Webster.

There, now we both can simply refer to this thread, and there's the copyright thingy.

Meanwhile, you've now put the idea to do It Won't Be Long into my music head.

As for what key to do it in, always a good idea overall,
to try out a few, see which one feels right...

As for 12th of Never, probably I won't do that with the band
as a BEATLESEX record,

as God only knows what these boys would have me do to it,
you know this lot, always have to put their stamp on everything....

so I'll more than likely do it as an ALJ record
and go Full On Croon Mode with it...
possibly pulling my baritone voice out of mothballs,
as moths have them and I actually do have a baritone voice when I want one.

I actually have no idea what I'll end up making it sound like,
and that's half the fun isn't it!

Meanwhile, oh fantastic, now I've got two songs going through me head...

You Only Live Twice being the other one... was just talkin' about that
in another life, uh, I mean, thread. Knowing Me Knowing You, is a pretty cool
song title by the way. Probably been used, but that means piddle, plenty
of times you have different songs with a title known as another song.
Happens all the time. Though there's yet to be another "A Hard Day's Night",
and let's face it, it'd have to be pretty good.
