Cool name and an interesting idea Norm, good for you to continue your passion here at IMP and perhaps a possibility your Reboot may attract attention to the variety of songs you may post in your new revamp, keeping it fresh and new. Many musicians do appreciate what you do, and your featuring of them on a weekly showcase as well
Most likely though I think people design their stations for their own enjoyment Norm, I know I do and sometimes I search about on other stations or peruse about using the search system here at IMP to locate a specific type of music, although perhaps this could be a new tool in the arsenal here at IMP.
On occasion when I filled my boots at a particular station and figured will that is enough there, I would begin a new project station specific to a particular genre such as hard rock, or blues or ambient and or numerous other styles. Sometimes a few of them will have a hodgepodge of songs scattered about like someone threw a batch of spaghetti against a wall, a number of my stations are like that lol
Generally it seems, in the last number of years, or many years from my perspective being a longtime member at the formerly named iacmusic now indiemusicpeople, people come by, show up, start a station or two then disappear. Some occasionally return and embark on new stations, or drop in for a hello, there are a handful of us who are truly dedicated diligent and committed to maintaining stations, and or prospecting for old songs and post new artists that come here to IMP and showcase their works.
As for your stations and what you do, there are very few hardcore station managers here that are as dedicated as you are Norm. Some of us who have been here on a consistent basis non stop over the last 17 years are very few indeed. ( I think this place has survived for nearly 20 years, which is amazing, many similar music organizations have died and evaporated into dust, this place has lasted due to the commitment of Scott, if not for him and some of those who donated substantial sums of money to keep it afloat, it be like Satellite Debris :)floating in music heaven.
I brought a number of groups here I promoted in 2004-2005 when I first found out about iacmusic and well into the following 10-12 years. It was a tool I used to help musicians I promoted at Voodoohead Productions to get known in other areas around the internet. Providing that as a bit of the backstory about me
I wish more listeners and other musicians would start up and show more interest and take time to support and showcase people as you do.
Steve April is a prime example of someone who has dedicated all his years here since he joined IMP as station manager (and a fine musician storyweaver too) Steve is one who loves music and gives the most wonderful reviews of songs he has discovered, whether new or older and in my mind he has been one of the best in the 15 years he has been around as a consistent dedicated Muse, a real connoisseur of music
. I would say overall he is one of the best ever and I consider him the top dog of station managers here at IMP, he adds songs, provides insightful reviews and does it with panache and thoughtfulness.
Anyways, good thing IMP has you and a few others who show up and help the station adds make the place look busy. it helps a lot, we appreciate what you do I know I dont have the same level of interest or time, other things now take precedence in my life and I wont be back in the same way, occasionally show up to let people know I still am walking upright lol
