Well, once again,

Thank you to Ms Tamellini, for her Kind Permission to Cover Her Song.

It's a really great song, I knew that ever since the first listen of her version.
I am thrilled she allowed me to cover this.

Also, I am authorizing her, her site here at IMP
(or really, anywhere else she cares to release it) as sole sales outlet
for anyone looking to buy this recording...
(have that mp3 in the email to you, in two shakes of a lamb's tail, Fran)

And if you haven't heard her version yet,
well you should. It's much better than ours. We're awful.
Yet we're famous, go figure. Thank you.

yeah, I rewrote a line or two to make the song fit me,
that's just how I sang it though, it's Francesca's Song.
Ain't lookin' for any writer credit. Matter of interpretation.

You say
Hey what's goin' on?
But you don't really care
If it takes too long
'Cause words can be meaningless
Without emphasis
Without a little kiss

And I need love in the dark
And I need someone who'll keep me warm
Do you need love in the dark with me?

So what do I gotta do
To make you love me?
What do I gotta do
To make you care?
What do I gotta do
To make you need me?
I don't have a clue
It ain't fair

We call it Fight Night
But it isn't right
'Cause you broke my heart
And you split my life

And I don't know
Whether to laugh or cry
So I do 'em both
Yeah I really tried

And I need love in the dark
As it used to be
As the day drove on
You're in a new car now
You don't see

So what do I gotta do
To make you want me?
What do I gotta do
To show I care?
What do I gotta do
To make you love me?
When, Girl, will you see me there?

But you don't care...
You don't care...

(Now she's gone, I struggle on...
Try my best to light the sun
Now she's gone, took all my fun
She's just beginning, and I'm done)

You don't care....
You don't care....

So what do I gotta do
To make you want me?
What do I gotta do
To show I care?
What do I gotta do
To make you love me?
When, Girl, will you see me there?

Well when I first read you were going to cover this I thought why, it's certainly not needed, and indeed her own version is a lot better, as you said. That said, why not a Beatle-ized version? This was pretty good. She's certainly one of the top indie songwriters, so getting her name out there more is a positive too. Course the music kind of speaks for itself, the capital letters might be overkill. haha

Overkill? We are not nice. We kill it twice.

No seriously,

We are arguably some big-ass egotists, all of us are, we know it,
and we try to offset it by embracing that we are awful.
Yeah we're awful but we learned how to fold hospital corners on awful.

WHY I would cover it, is it's a great song. We all like the song.
So like you said, 'why not a Beatle version'.

And that's what we did.

we are that way.

I personally like the capital letters,
'cause it's like,

I like it lots and take it as a huge compliment, but I'm not putting it out as mine. I have the writer's share but nothing to do with the performance. That is all down to the dashing blade and his merry band.

As long as Scott mentioned it... I'm not a fan of "ALL CAPS". CAPS are okay sometimes for effect. But all the time? Not a fan.

You are good enough that you really don't need to do that, ALJ. Heck, just to keep it real, you are good enough that I can say that, IMHO, your constant use of the Beatles names takes away from your own original talent. You don't need the crutch.

And I hope you take this as a compliment! Because it is!

Getting away from capitals, my version of the song has disappeared from all charts. Anyone know why? I think I might be getting an old version of them.

I think the charts are still trying to catch up from the big meltdown. I am sure it will be fine soon.

Francesca I checked out your Stat Cave and found the song on the second page of Folk/Acoustic chart, pretty much where the Stat Cave said it would be.

American Lesley Jane

Well you know, John insists we always put BEATLESEX that way,
in all capital letters... it's a rule with him. I hear it if I don't. He's that way.

So we just did it all that way, pretty much. It's all BIG MARQUEE....
and like you said, good to get her name out there,

she is in my opinion the greatest female songwriter of our time.
She's this era's Laura Nero, to my mind.
That's why I had to do this one, it's too good, and it sounded
like a Beatle kind of harmony that she did with herself, Buddy Holly style,
overdubbing providing her own harmony... like "Words Of Love" or something....

I was tickled when she said I could do it, and as I did it,
I realized 'this will have to be a BEATLESEX record' 'cause it just sounded it.

Well, if you notice, Larree and anyone else who cares,

I don't all cap American Lesley Jane. Well, the songs I do.
Not the name.
ELVIS LESLEY yeah, that I do, 'cause it's ELVIS LESLEY.

I didn't invent that 'hype' is a part of this business,
but I'm dealing with it.

As far as our name, BEATLESEX,
Larree, I'm not hiding behind it,
They Came First.
BEATLESEX appeared on mp3.com, in early 2001.

By the time 9-11 happened, BEATLESEX had released 12 albums.
By late 2001, American Lesley Jane appeared. Ta-DA!

Dashing Blade... I love when she calls me that.

Okay, well you don't have to release it, that's fine, Fran.
I'm very happy you like it.

You are an unbelievable songwriter and you're only just getting started....

John named us by the way.
I do channel Lennon.

Kind of stupid to try and hide from it, if you can do that.
So, you don't. I don't anyway.
And yes, the name idea, is John's idea,
and it's his requirement we do it in caps like that.

I can see the argument of 'maybe it's a bit much'
but as I said, I didn't invent that hype, is a part of this whole business.

So we're basically dealing with that.
Plus John's a bigger egotist than I'll ever be.
That's why American Lesley Jane doesn't get all caps when I bill a song for ALJ.

Though the title does,

and ELVIS LESLEY, does,

mostly 'cause, if BEATLESEX can do it,
well so can I, at least, that side of me.

If capital letters are going to keep anyone from listening,

@ALJ ~ I've added both versions of the song to my station: Under The Covers.
You now have three covers there. Perhaps your creativity and willingness to take artistic risks will inspire other members to cover an IMP artist. Keep up the good work!

Hey, it's all cool. I'm just saying that you don't need to do all that to impress people with your music. Your music stands on its own.

My work does stand on it's own.

I had heard that, then they started saying stuff about, it's not work though.
So, I no longer hear that person. Which works for me.

And, the work I do with the boys, that's real too. And it's really work.
And I'm not going to keep telling the story.

Yes I am.

Pete Shotton, John Lennon's boyhood friend, came to my home,
when my wife was alive, like, ten years ago...

and saw, I do channel John Lennon.
Pete then said to John, after watching us WORK for seven hours
in the studio,

"You bastard.
You knew.
You knew didn't you.
You knew that if I saw you work (note: 'work')
I'd know it's you"

John replied,
"I've only been trying to tell you that for two fuckin' Years, Shotton",

Pete just said,
'fucccccccccck' and sat back on the couch in the studio.

(parenthesis added for highlight)

Great song, Francesca, and thank you for allowing me to cover it.

Have a Great Saturday, Everyone. Whether you play or whether you work.
