Paul Simon never topped Mrs Robinson
That's the way I hear it.

You might be right. I also love "Bridge Over Troubled Water." S&G were (are) so talented; true music iconic legends!

Sound of Silence

They wouldn't like to hear that opinion. Lot of their stuff became either overproduced, or a bit pompous. Yes, I know Sound of Silence was an acoustic track that producers added to, but I think they did a good job in that case, and I'm perfectly satisfied with the way it sounds.

Yeah, you know... ?

Great as Mrs Robinson is....

The full version (as opposed to the original issue of just acoustic)
of Sounds Of Silence... it is pretty incredible.

Now I wanna cover it. Hmm.

And the people bowed and prayed
to the neon god they made
and the sign flashed out its warning
in the words that it was forming
and the sign said
the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
and tenement halls
and whispered
in the sounds
of silence...

yeah come on,
that kicks Mrs Robinson's ass.

No contest.
That's damn near impossibly attainable greatness.

You're right...

That was actually Dustin Hoffman...

Though your mistake is understandable,

Sounds of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Waters are two of the greatest songs ever written. I love performing those two songs.

I go with Traeshy on this. Mrs. Robinson has the timeless hook, and the song is also iconic on several levels. Bridge is almost as great though. I also really love Mother and Child Reunion and Hazy Shade of Winter even though the Bangles' version was a lot better than theirs.

Loved all the songs mentioned and also have very
fond memories chillin' by myself with headphones and listening to:

I Am A Rock
Richard Cory
April Come She Will
Dangling Conversation

Simon and Garfunkel we're definitely icons of the era and provided a lot of the
soundtrack to our lives.

Oh it may be Mrs Robinson is perhaps their best 'feel good' hit,
(though come to think of it, The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy),
is probably a close contender in that department)...

they really have a great bunch of classics,
just, songs any of us would be cakewalkin' if we'd ever written.

Hazy Shade Of Winter is brilliant,
and was the song that made me think of
"God's In Love With Everybody" (ALJ),
in fact, I did the whole song, to sound like a S&G song...
that one in particular.

"In God We Trust" (also ALJ)
is one, also done in the vein of S&G,
though not really inspired by any one particular song
(as "God's In Love With Everybody" clearly was by "Hazy Shade")

But Traeshy's initial statement here,
That Paul Simon never topped, Mrs Robinson,
is arguable certainly. Not that I have all day for that.

I personally still think, well Larree named both of 'em,
"Sounds Of Silence" AND "Bridge Over Troubled Water"

I happen to think they are more Powerful,
and therefore, Greater, Works, songs, records, all that,

than Mrs Robinson,

though again, Mrs Robinson,
may in a way be their best 'feel good' hit,

it's very nice, to be reminded,
as we all are any time we hear it,

"Jesus loves you more than you will know, whoa whoa whoa...
God Bless you please, Mrs Robinson...
Heaven holds a place for those who pray... hey hey hey... hey hey hey..."

There is a real tangible, comfort, in those words.

Bridge Over Troubled Water,
well that's a testament to friendship,
believable, if you have one. A friend, whom you can plausibly believe
would be such, not all of us do...

have that.

Some may have had it, and lost it,
everybody's situation is different.

But boy, Artie's voice in that, purely angelic.

And Sounds Of Silence,

well that's pure greatness for a different reason.

For one thing,
it came out, in a time of great bustling creativity.
It came out, in no silent time, in other words.
It is absolutely prophetic.

Because, the time Sounds Of Silence foretells?

That, happens, to be right now.

And if that don't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up,
check yourself for a pulse.

It's incredibly great, even though it has, really no solution
to readily offer...

It simply foretells, of this dark dark time...

"people talking without speaking,
people hearing without listening...

people writing songs that voices never shared,
no one dared...

disturb the sounds of silence..."

It is, so brilliantly crafted,

it very well could be the Epilogue of Mankind.

I'm not saying it is, I hope not!

But, it could be.

So, in terms of just, Profound Nearly Impossible To Attain Greatness,

Wow.

We really could have this quasi discussion/argument all day.

If I wanted to spend all day doing that. I don't though. See yas...

got work to do.

I'd forgotten that one!

Fakin' It.

Another impossibly great one.

They truly were icons of the age many of us grew up in.
Too bad Paul and Artie fight like cats dogs toothpaste and bitches. Damn shame.

Elve's bread...

doesn't Keebler make that?
Very pleasant music you make, I listened;
you should do more of it. Maybe sing, how's your voice?
The Boxer is interesting,
who'd ever have thought you could make an epic chorus out of
"lie lie lie... BOOOM... lie lie lie lie lie lie lie..."
That's innovative as all get up and hit the ground runnin', don't you think?

I absolutely LOVE "Flowers Never Bend With The Rainfall",
that one, I actually already did cover,
perhaps I should think about puttin' that one out...

The other one, I am not familiar with.
(I take it it's a solo Simon or solo Garfunkel)
I do recall "My Little Town",

....it was on both Simon's solo album, and Garfunkel's solo album,

which is interesting,
imagine, they could not stand to be together longer than that.
"Okay, here's one song, that's it."

Too funny.

It's just too darn bad, those two can't lay aside their differences,
and make music, 'cause, man, once upon a time, they really could. Sad, really.

Fakin' It... always loved that one...

Good Morning Mr Leach have you had a busy day?

I am the tailor's face and hands...
I am tailor's face and hands...

oh yeah, he had himself some of the Lysergic Acid Detehlylmide. just a bit..

great song.

I saw them live in Central Park...

it was nice in a way,
though when I saw the film later,
frustrating, Garfunkel got lazy,
wasn't even singing his proper harmonies,
just singing in unison with Simon. Lazy lazy lazy.

fakin' it...

yyep.
