Hey Bernie Fans... Tell me how the $15.00 an hour minimum wage is suppose to work...
I work for a company that employs about a dozen $8-$10 folks. To some it's a part-time gig to supplement their income, two are college students, the rest like their boss ;-)
If we had to pay them $15/hour we probably wouldn't keep them all and at $15/ hour we could find better skilled individuals...
Some of the increase in cost may lead to higher prices passed on to customers...

Recently we ran an ad for a part-time position
we had approximately 125 responses
We narrowed that list down to the best 25 possibilities for interviews
14 showed up
2 were selected
One accepted the position...
I set up her paid training days
She never showed up.

Do any of you employ minimum wage workers?
Have you read a resume or job application from someone looking for low wage work?

You start to see why so many people are unemployed..
and you want companies to pay them $15/ hour?

Does Bernie employ any minimum wage workers?
Laffing out loud! ;-)

Apparently, you work for a crappy company. There are sooo many. It's the foundation of America, rampant greed. LOL.

On the bright side, this debate is speeding up research in automation and robot technology.

So... someone today earning 30k a year is in that $15/ hour range. You diminish their value when you bring up someone with less experience and education to the same $$.
How do you rectify this? Pay them $20/ hour?
And.... customer cost goes up again.
Bernie's a funny guy...

We also have about 90 workers earning 45-90k/ year...I wouldn't call that crappy.
The company is owned by an immigrant who came here with nothing even lived on welfare for a short stint.
But is now a wealthy man. And he created jobs.
Nothing crappy about that.

So are we to take it then that you could live fine on 7.25 per hour?

Don't worry, Holo. That $15 an hour will feel like $7.25 an hour after prices are jacked up to cover for the loss of profits.

Could I live on $7.25/ hour...
I doubt it.
But then I have made better decisions (not always) that have protected me from experiencing that.

There really are very few things that prevent people from advancing in life... personal choices/ decisions have a lot to do with where most end up.
If you finish school
Don't commit crime
Seek employment
And don't have kids out of wedlock
You increase your chances of obtaining middle class status tremendously
Somewhere near 80% of the middle class all have these things in common.
So yeah… not everyone... but there are people that make bad choices and still end up in the middle class or better.
You can look up the statistics...
They're just numbers... they won't hurt you.
I think it was a Huffington Post story... don't remember but if I can find a link I'll post it.
Do I think 7.25 is fair... no.
Do I think 15 is fair... hell no.

At least it was honest enough to include this part of the truth...

The study’s authors point out that one challenge in teasing out minimum-wage effects was that the Seattle economy “boomed” over this period, posting growth rates that “tripled the national average” and “outpaced Seattle’s own robust performance in recent years.”

So they're at $11.00 not $15 yet...? Not all companies?
See how that works when the economy takes a turn back to normal.

Some early results on that minimum wage increase (still not at $15) in Washington/Seattle...
Not favorable numbers but sounds a bit incomplete to this point.
