Remember when Americans could unite when the time came?

Smoke and fire as I recall
I watched my institutions fall
Images replayed for all till they burned into my mind
Mothers, fathers, daughters, sons
It touched us each and everyone
Father help me overcome the sorrow that I feel inside
But I find when the smoke has cleared there’s something left behind
Manhattan skies in an August dream I saw them starring down at me
Just like they’re supposed to be
I realize in the here and now, well something’s lost but something’s found
A spirit that unites us now
See the Phoenix rise into Manhattan skies
Solo
Manhattan skies in an August world
They are majestic standing tall. Looking like they’d never fall
I realize in the here and now, well something’s lost but something’s found
A spirit that unites us now will make the Phoenix rise in to Manhattan skies
Days will come and years will go
We’ll clean up so the scares don’t show
Even though we surely know they’ll be with us all our lives
A picture here, a gesture there the memory sparks of lives we shared
That morning they were standing there, by eleven they were gone.
But I find when the smoke has cleared there’s something left behind
Manhattan skies as they are today
I see them smiling down at me just like they’re supposed to be
I realize in the here and now, well something’s lost but something’s found
A spirit that unites us now.
See the Phoenix rise into Manhattan skies
Watch the Phoenix rise
