I was looking at a story about a young unarmed Black man who had been killed by the police. When the camera cut to his mother she sat with her head held in her hands and cried Oh oh oh I can't believe they killed my baby. I turned off the TV but the words oh oh oh kept vibrating in my head until I had to write a song about it.

Damn the song put excrement on the flag because it celebrates a freedom none of us ever had.
Too many young souls shot down in their prime. Too many young fools locked up doing time
They say we should be grateful that we have our freedom. To live in hostile police states where guns secure them.
They shoot to kill unarmed people and they tell us. That their response must be lethal oh, oh oh

12 White people on a rigged grand jury say the killing was just for my young dead homey. He never had a gun he never used gats but now he laying in the street with 50 bullets in his back.
His kin protest the racist laws and blatant injustice. Police don’t ever get arrested or busted.
10 million witnesses have seen their racist crime because its posted on youtube and so easy to find.

Kaepernick put his whole career on the line with a peaceful protest of the police and their crimes.
