somewhere between Johnny Cash & George Harrison...

©2006 L. Quick

written in a camper at the Kerrville Folk Festival, May 28, 2006.
performed and recorded by Lee Quick.
There's a black hole
in the highway
It hurts my head to hit it every day
But it’s just too small
so they won’t come
to fill it in and make it smooth again

I can’t help it
but it bothers me

There’s a black mark
on my white dress
I don’t think it will ever fade away
And it wears me down
and I wonder
what would ever make it white again

I can’t help it
but it bothers me

There’s a black line
on my front door
It stayed there when the water went away
And it won’t come off
even though I
have tried and tried to make it clean again

I can’t help it
but it bothers me

There’s a black hole
in my memory
of how it feels to get away from pain
But I can’t go back
and there’s nothing
to fill my soul and make it whole again

I can’t help it
but it bothers me

THE ORCHARD
Really original song craft. I just love how Lee phases the words. I just love the way she feels her way around the edges of the words. Song craft ? This girl knows how to write, Hell...just sit back and listen. I Don't think Lee has any idea...just how good she is. Maybe that's a good thing ? Do diamonds have to know that they shine ?

INDIE SPIRIT
Half songwriter and half classical musician, Lee is a genuine and compelling performer, a skilled guitarist, and able to deliver both intensity and nuance in her live shows. In other words: she sounds good, plays good, and looks good doing it. Lee's original songs show many influences, from the Beatles and Elvis Costello to Johnny Cash and Lucinda Williams. Her first album, "Do You Think?", recorded in a shotgun house (now deceased) in the Lower Ninth Ward, was self-released in February 2004 and is available online at iTunes and CDbaby.com. In 2005 a hurricane named Katrina forced Lee to relocate from New Orleans to Nashville, Tennessee, where she appears regularly around town, including the famous Bluebird Cafe Writers Night. In 2007 Lee unveiled a batch of new songs called "Songs For Refugees," written and recorded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and largely in the throes of despair. But not all of the songs are funny. In 2008 Lee posted a collection of songs titled "I Wandered (I Wondered)," featuring hippy-dippy-trippy-trancy-poppy songs for groovy moods. Perfect for 4:20 in the afternoon.
