Troubadour

Verse 1:
The other day I was just thinking that there’s another way to live
Besides being the average American family with two and a half kids,
Living in a little house on the corner right next to the Joneses,
Saving up for retirement and hoping that the government keeps their promises.
I could stay in the comforts of predictability,
But I’m longing to take the open road wherever it may lead.

Chorus:
I wanna be travelin’ like a troubadour, like a missionary minstrel,
With a song and a suitcase, singing the gospel.
I wanna be walking with Jesus from town to town with hope for the lost and poor;
Travelin’ like a troubadour.

Verse 2:
Perfect little job, perfect little life in a perfect little town;
It seemed to me to be the right thing to do to buy a house and settle down.
So I assimilated, became domesticated, while my dreams sat on a shelf
‘Til the doors of opportunity opened right before me when my bridges burned themselves.
Looking back I have no regrets; no I’m really quite at peace.
To tell you the truth, I think that I have been waiting for this release.
