A rousing, uplifting, life-affirming feel-good song. A little corny and cliche, but heart-felt.

Lyrics/Music/Singing/Playing/Ferret Training/Arranging/Recording: Tom O'Brien

I heard through the grapevine that someone in the publishing biz was making a movie about someone surviving breast cancer. I wrote this as a response to that about a friend who was a cancer survivor.
I feel life openin'
With hope again
You'll never see me tied up on the ropes again
I'm trustin' in
The power within
To come alive and show me what it knows again

The feeling of the earth beneath my feet
Is enough to cause my heart to skip a beat
There was a time when I refused to care
Now I'm happy just to breathe the air

(Chorus)

The grass still grows in yards all over town
Defying all attempts to mow it down
And reaching to the sun I'm just a weed
A little rain and sun are all I need

(Chorus)

Looking at my childhood I once cried
Knowing that I could not have it all
Never knew that I'd be justified
Never knew that I would grow so tall

(Chorus)

The book of life just wanders on and on
But there will come a day when I am gone
But I will write the pages while I'm here
In ink that never ever disappears

(Chorus and fade) x
