Whenever you're down and you're feeling blue... Have I got a story for you.

Lyrics and music by J. Patrick Sharpe

(Ch) Have I got a story for you
Have I got a story for you
Whenever you’re down and you’re feeling blue
Have I got a story for you

There was a man with a beat up guitar
Drove around town in a broken down car
He kept all his tips in an old pickle jar
He played five nights a week at the bar

Well he never had much to his name
But he felt he was rich just the same
From miles around the people they came
To hear him confess and proclaim (Ch)

In his tunes he philosophized long
About a thin line between right and wrong
Forty years in the desert to make his voice strong
He baptized their ears with a song (Ch)

A smile on his face he did keep
With laugh lines abundant and deep
The apartment he rented was little and cheap
He died there alone in his sleep

His funeral was held at sunrise
The crowd was of considerable size
The songwriters lamented his early demise
With words that were weary and wise (Ch)
