From Get Away From That Fish recorded in 1996

A.Acton/B.Pascoe

This song was written by Austin Acton with the lyrics written by Beck Pascoe, the band’s original bassist. The recording is taken from “Get Away From That Fish” recorded and released independently in 1996. It was one of the first Cragmatic Pope songs and my favourite of their old songs from before I joined the band. The clip you hear at the beginning is the original band playing. Austin thought it would be a neat thing to have on the track as a nod to the band’s history. When I joined this band in 1995 and it already been around for a little over a year. Amanda and Austin had been in the band since the beginning but there were two distinct lineups of the band, each with a different sound, before I joined in the 3rd and final version of this band.

Recording this song, for me, was another one of those experiences where I was a spectator first just digging on another band’s music and ended up in band for the recording. I think because this song traces back to the beginning of the band’s history, it’s recording helped me feel more like a part of the band and it’s history. Also, we wanted to include at least one song with Beck’s lyrics on each album and after having two on the last one it was a cool way to come full circle as we were all aware that this would be our last album as with Amanda going off to University soon whatever happened after wouldn’t be Cragmatic Pope.
