Now At Least I’m Dry (Serenity) - Featuring Darryl O'Donnel

I saw a man walkin’ down the street in the pourin’ rain
Soaked from his head to his feet, walkin’ in the other lane
I checked my mirror as I pulled over and as he walked on by
I said, hey man get out of the rain, don’t you want a ride
Verse 2
He jumped in as if he knew me, but I didn’t know his name
Through a smile I tried to place him, he said I’m glad you came
He broke the ice so I said hey how are ya, is everything alright
He looked at me and said you know I’ve been better, but now at least I’m dry
Chorus
He talked about times and troubles when he talked about his life
He told me how the day he hit bottom he lost his wife
He stumbled through the years that aged him and then they passed him by
He said I found a prayer that changed me and now at least I’m dry
Verse 3
I dropped him off downtown at the mission where he was waiting on friends
I couldn’t help but stand there with him as he introduced me to them
He told me how they were there for him when he couldn’t help himself
Until he learned to fight off temptation and keep it on the shelf
Verse 4
It didn’t take long to find out where it all went wrong
Once he hid himself in a bottle, it didn’t take long
To throw away everything he once held as most important in life
Until he found the wisdom to change things and the courage to try
Chorus
He talked about times and troubles when he talked about his life
He told me how the day he hit bottom he lost his wife
He stumbled through the years that aged him and then they passed him by
He said I found a prayer that changed me and now at least I’m dry
Repeat Last Line of Chorus

NUMBER 1 on Cashbox's Country Picks - Top Ten! Featured in the Nashville Country Countdown with Dave Lane! Again, a selfish act of self-promotion. It's a story that I was proud to tell. I always wanted to reference one of my favorite writings (Serenity Prayer) in a song. I hope you like this song!

LEGENDARY MUSIC
Where do I start with this song??? Lyrics?? Great !!! Music?? Awesome - beginning with a couple of real sweet intro licks!! Arrangement ?? Masterful !! Vocals ?? Country through and through!! Okay, okay ... here we go .. now I really know where to start .. right here .. right here with this great story-telling Cowboy Country twangin' voice .. lordy how I love the sound of those Lonesome Country Cowboy Blues, and this is just about as good as you're ever gonna get it folks. It was a beautiful sunny summer morning here so me and ol' Rascal left the cabin early, got in our Chevy pickup and stuck Mickey John's "At Least I'm Dry (Serenity)" single CD into the custom installed Pioneer CD player here in the Chevy and rolled down the windows. Rascal got his head stuck out the window on his side real quick like. I turned up the volume and we hit the road headed for morning coffee with the boys down at Mabel's Diner just outside of town with Mickey John's song just a popping the coils in the twin speakers. This is on-road, off-road, any-kind-of-road music folks. With this song pumping out of my speakers I was thinking about driving right on past Mabel's Diner and keep on going until maybe I'd worn out the CD. Great songwriting Mickey John .. the kind of lyrics here that we all dream about writing some day. Well, we played it a bunch of times before we got to Mabel's .. now I can't get it out of my head. Great tune and well done. Welcome again to Legendary Music Mickey John - you're in legendary company here !!
