Lost and Lonesome

Well I tried to figure out just what I left out
In life’s pursuit of fortune and fame
During the day I go about and at night I go without
It cuts like a knife just to hear your name
I tried everything to help ease the pain
Of knowing that the fault was my own
Now you’re gone

I spend every night under the neon lights
Singing drinking songs to get you off my mind
The thing I fear is perfectly clear
Your memory breaks my heart every time
I stay lost and lonesome in Caroline

It seems I lost my way had the wrong things to say
I wound up all alone and dirt poor
The price I have to pay is to wake up everyday
And be kicked like a dog once more
Ornery no good and mean I beat all I’ve ever seen
I’m stuck here with no place to call home
Now you’re gone

Well I tried to figure out just what loves about
But the thought doesn’t last very long
Does no good to scream and shout or burn the whole place down
I think I’ll try to explain in this song
I tried everything to help ease the sting
of knowing that the thought was my own
now you’re gone
