LEGENDARY MUSIC Time, people and places etch memories deep inside of our minds long before we discover they are there, and by then our thoughts and lives are far removed from when they took place. They are like the leaves of autumn that are swept and whisked around our feet in swirling whirlwinds reminding us that once they were the short-lived beauty that if we were lucky and had taken the time, we would have admired and appreciated in their brief time here. They are the dried and crumpled flower petals strewn along our walkways of life and that lay in our gardens of summers past, leaving but faint recognition and recollectiion of the splendor they once displayed for our eyes to behold ... blessings all ... come and gone. Pip and Merry are the inspiration for these thoughts of mine tonight. It has been a while - make that far too long - since I have visited this trailer-traveling gifted and unaffected masters and perfectly matched duo of English country/folk music. I don't know how many times I listened, completely taken and spellbound I might add, to their brilliant "OLD BONES AND SILVER" before I could find the words that I wanted to say. The storytelling here is warm and deep and so very, very poignant and beautiful. Pip's vocals echoing behind me in the cabin as I sit out here on the porch watching a harvest moon drift slowly through the clouds are making me imagine that I'm sitting around an old cowboy campfire down by a lazy river stream listening to Willie Nelson ... and Merry's harmony vocals are so beautiful that I'm sure June Carter-Cash's spirit must have somehow found its way into her soul and into this great song, which means of course that Johnny is likely also somewhere in the shadows. A perfect title, amazing lyrics, heartfelt storytelling, classic country singing and campfire guitar playing, wistful, reflective, melancholy and beautiful ... Legendary Music for sure ... makes me want the night to never end.
