THE BORGIAS

Pope Alexander survives an assassination attempt and comes back stronger than ever, reaching the pinnacle of power, influence and wealth...
from The Borgias, season 3
‘The Poisoned Chalice” episode 1

After the death of Pope Innocent VIII, Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, with the help of his sons, bribes and cajoles other cardinals to vote for him in the conclave to elect the new pontiff. He succeeds, and assumes the papal throne as Alexander VI. Two other ambitious cardinals, Orsini and Della Rovere, immediately begin plotting against him. When Orsini hosts a dinner for the pope and the cardinals, Rodrigo's son Cesare catches a servant, Micheletto, in the kitchen preparing to poison the Borgias' wine. Offering the assassin better pay if he works for his family, Cesare has Orsini poisoned instead.

Lucrezia also survived malaria, and the loss of her father and brother. Her personality reconciled her to her husband, his family and her state, and she took up court positions, acting as regent. She organised the state, saw it through war, and created a court of great culture through her patronage. She was popular with her subjects, and died in 1519.

Mystery Too
Oh the mystery of history and the misery through the ages. interesting storyline I rather like the tune, nice one Steve , my take is this, all in the name of religion and those who are rulers and oppressors of many of mankind using this as a way to empower themselves and oppress the many, not that I think they. the borgias are worthy or special. but they are human and worthy of forgiveness for all they have done ,love the whole concept and songcrafting. nice stuff
