“Long Way Down” by Mark Hewer & Ash Ferry
Posted to Legendary Music II Sept 2, 2009 – Song and review disappeared from station unknown date. Review reprinted below.
"Music - the language of love and life, turning pages in our heart, reflections of our soul, painting pictures of hopes and dreams, successes, losses, promises, pain and failures, and memories - a panoramic tapestry of life stretched out in the back roads of our mind, treasured memories that we hang on to dearly and other memories that refuse to go away no matter how hard we try to forget them, all a part of our Book of Life. The beautiful music of the multi-talented Mark Hewer and the ever so poignant words and angelic vocals of the much talented and so deeply beautiful Ash Ferry paint such a picture, laying bare the heart and searching the soul, standing on the precipice of life looking a "Long Way Down" into the emptiness and darkness. Time in a bottle ... a page of life. What more could I possibly say about a song that speaks so much to life with every beat of its heart … and what more could one possibly say about these two talented artists that the world doesn’t already know about - beautiful music, arrangement and production, heartfelt, heart-wrenching and so very poignant lyrics all topped and capped with Ash Ferry and her beautiful angelic voice. What more could anyone possibly ever want."

Last Night
I know it's long overdue, Duane, particularly as you were one of the first to have my back way back when I took an active position in IAC, now IMP, but I'm so glad I FINALLY made the trip from Paris to L.A. - Paris Ontario Canada, that is - and treated myself to your real cool chops here and your awesome talkin' axe solos on this great bluesy blues rockin' tune. Call me crazy, but there's just something about "Last Night" that whispers to me that it might have been close to the heart at one time and that that's what makes it the great song that it is and that brought out the best in you as the songwriter you are - true to the heart. I love the lyrics, and the production - what can I say, first class, man, all the way, with kudos to legendary IAC'r / IMP'r Bryon Tosoff on the Hammond B3 and Greg Albright's killer sax solos! It was hard not to feel like I was anchored in a quiet little beach-front bistro somewhere in Waikiki sipping away on a Mai Tai and watching tanned beauties strolling past and wondering which one had tore out your heart. It was no good listening just once. No siree, Bob! I ran it a bunch of times lovin' it more and more every time. You are an awesome musician Duane, as well as a greatly respected and stalwart long time member of IAC / IMP. Thanks for having my back way back when you did ... and a long overdue welcome to Legendary Music II. Play hard and rock on! added to station 4/21/2018 5:22:11 AM

Silver Screen
Never one to disappoint the musical palette, Roy Muniz serves up yet another gem in "Silver Screen", one he says is an "early seventies original by the Muniz brothers" that being Roy and his beloved late brother Raymond accompanied on this track by another talented IMP artist, James Stanley Howen on bass guitar. Raymond's ethereal vocals take their lead from the aching strains of his harmonica and acoustic guitar offering up a soulful and poignant dreamscape of a child's silver screen date with destiny. If there's ever a singer-songwriter who can whisk me away to some magical far-away fantasy place with his lonesome, quavering falsetto vocals reminiscent of my renowned countryman, it is Roy Muniz accompanying brother Ray here with his trusty twelve-string guitar and backing vocals. Written by Raymond and co-written by Roy - a songwriting legend in his own right - it doesn't get much better than "Silver Screen" and in my view a candidate for a film score Oscar or at the very least a Golden Kayak. This is a wonderful magical story woven into a beautiful tapestry of lyrics and music. Legendary! added to station 3/9/2018 1:12:06 AM

Just A Splash (ft. Duane Flock)
Kudos to two of the most laid-back talented musicians and artists on IMP on the collaboration of this most beautiful piece of laid-back music painting a picture of blissful serenity reminiscent of a rendezvous in a secluded corner of a dimly-lit cocktail lounge. I can attest to there being a place like this, Dolores. "Just A Splash" brought back beautiful memories of enchanted idyllic and rapturous evenings in such a lounge in Waikiki sharing heavenly moments with music such as this floating on the gardenia scented night air marveling at the silhouette of Diamond Head in the distance and the splendor of a glorious sunset setting on the Pacific - the perfect union of body, spirit and souls. I could hear strains of "China Nights" and "More" by Kai Winding and Kenny Burrell in your collab - a confluence of your gifts of music richly flavored by the fusion of your individual musical style and sounds. Yes, Dolores and Duane, I have that vintage LP album on the Verve label in my extensive collection. It is one of my favourites to spin and listen to when I want to escape to that special place in my dreams and memories. Thank you for taking me there again with "Just A Splash" of beautiful music ... Every Now And Then (cover)
What an incredible honour to have an artist or artists perform such wonderful justice to your song Steve. This one touches a chord in the most poignant and beautiful way imaginable. Been there and felt that, and still do some days. As beautiful as it was, it never goes away. Heartfelt lyrics, lush production, warm and tender vocals reminiscent of "If" by Bread complete with an aching, crying solo tugging on every longing string in your heart turning it upside down and emptying it out. The pain of love lost - only music such as this can come close to expressing how it feels. This is a wonderful cover - it must make you feel so proud of your work, Steve. Father Time
(Living on a) Treadmill
I finally made my way around - much too long overdue in happening I might add with a certain sense of guilt - to adding a song by one of the most dedicated musicians and souls - among other roles that he fills, living here at IMP (formerly IAC) to one of my stations. Father Time's "(Living on a) Treadmill – Father Time's Blues" was my choice hands down for this first time (no pun intended) recognition of Scott's diverse musical talent and spectrum. I simply LOVED the great intro! Threaded and woven into the song were a confluence of music influences that would have easily suited themes for films like "Heaven's Prisoners" (featuring music composed by George Fenton), David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" and "Twin Peaks" and Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" making Scott a genius to my ears. It doesn't stop there. Scott's lyrics, imagery and soulful vocals work perfectly into this mix setting the stage for what maybe he has in mind – a video perhaps or even a feature film in the vein of the aforementioned thrillers. Groove on Father Time – the future awaits you. Hell man, maybe it’s even right here, right now! Well done, Scott. I thoroughly enjoyed this song. desert flower
For years I have been drawn to the desert, been there many times, loved it every time and missed it every time I left to come home. In its quintessential mystical way, the desert felt like home. The first time I heard guitarist Ottmar Liebert's Spanish-influenced music on his 1990 Nouveau Flamenco album, I felt the whole presence of the desert fill my soul. Bryon's "desert flower" - done as Bryon said with a Roland-Fantom Spanish acoustic setting is as close as it gets to a dead ringer to many of the songs on Ottmar Liebert's album. It is like a breath of warm sensual desert air to my soul - peaceful, restorative, imaginative and spiritual - the complete soul-filling package for my easy listening hours. Thank you, Bryon. added to station 10/19/2017 8:38:27 PM

You Hate Me Blues
I finally worked my way around to Stoneman's page spending a good couple of hours there just listening, respecting and appreciating the great talent and inspiration that not only moves this man to write award winning songs but also to honour the IAC community with a level of involvement, contribution and humility second to none. Right from the get-go of Stoneman's 'gotcha' drum intro and raunchy New Orleans guitar riff I was in and I wasn't leaving until the big man drove this tune all the way home. Stoneman lays down some mean tracks, cuts a cool blues groove and tops it all with calculated and well-balanced lyrics and vocals that leave no question about the reason or passion for the message that he so eloquently delivers. I have to label "You Hate Me Blues" unquestionably and memorably as a Stoneman classic bar none. Welcome to Legendary Music II. added to station 11/2/2011 5:16:50 AM

Steve really lightens up life here!! I just love the way he sets the stage for the tune with his melodramatic 15-second countdown intro ... and then, kazaam!!! Up and away Steve goes on his "American Dreamer" trip with the coolest eclectic pumping honky-tonkin' piano guitar riffin' melody with lead vocals and harmonies fit for a king!! Great lyrics and arrangement painting a picture of the great American Dream with all the trimmings and excitement of a Coney Island carnival ... and then at closing time we're treated to one fine guitar pickin' piano poundin' outro that spells N-O-T-H-I-N-G M-I-S-S-I-N-G H-E-R-E F-O-L-K-S … NOTHING!!! And "SHINE" it truly does, not only for its stated heartfelt humanitarian cause and purpose but also from within its consortium and assembly of gifted and talented songwriters, singers, musicians and professionals beginning with Mark Boals all the way down to the end of the long list of credits on Mark's artist page. BOOK OF LIFE feat Leo / Sharon
Beginning with the beautifully calming intro to this spiritually engaging and winsome musical masterpiece - quintessential Silverwood Studio - this gathering of gifted and greatly talented musicians, song writers and singers featuring Leo Haszard Barrer and Sharon Ware had me spell-bound and in the palm of their hand sweeping me magically away on a journey from the womb to a mother's loving arms and soothing lullabies and from the cradle through all the pages of the "Book Of Life" portrayed here from verse to verse like chapter to chapter and song to song in a most enchanting kaleidoscope of imaginary and child-like drawings, paintings and pictures of innocence, and thoughts of all the roads traveled, seas sailed, valleys walked and mountains climbed that is written into our "Book" at the time the seed to our soul is planted - from its beginning to its end. The "Book Of Life" - poignant and penetrating lyrics, soothing healing vocals and harmony, a gentle guitar melody and music as soft and warm and comforting as a summer breeze, and production and arrangement guided I'm certain by the hand of the Creator - a Five Star song in my humble book - Uplifting, Beautiful, Classic, Legendary, and yes, Timeless. added to station 2/7/2010 1:45:55 AM

Friends
Well pHLeGm now he's a friend of mine sang and played hard rock and metal most of the time who'd've thought he'd turn up here turn country music upside down and on it's ear ... well pHLeGm, I hope you didn't mind my little play on words on your gREaT tune but you had my toes tapping so GD fast my fingers couldn't F'ing keep up to the words spinning out of my head. Okay okay, I know those are a couple of pretty strong adjectives coming out of the mouth of an old country boy who was told many times as a young lad that soap was used for much more than just washing dirt out of hands. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. In any event folks of all stripes, I want y'all to know I've come to have a great appreciation for this master of underground music and "poster child" of hard rock and metal from Tucson Arizona. By the way, I say "poster child" with the greatest respect and admiration because if there's one thing about CS pHLeGm and his music - the bar just keeps getting raised higher and higher. I've wandered Arizona and even the campus of Arizona U (in Phoenix mind you, not Tucson) once or twice in my younger (no pun intended) days. It never crossed my mind then that years later I'd cross happy trails on internet radio with another musical troubadour who would record a tune at the U of A Music School Studio (I'm presuming in Tucson). Just goes to prove though that pHLeGm's absolutely right, you never know when or where you're going to meet great friends "along the way in this crazy-assed life" and world we live in. For me, quite simply, meeting pHLeGm has clearly been a bonus!! "Friends" - awesome intro, great guitars, great musicians, vocals that would make Tom Petty blink twice, bang on lyrics, cool harmonies, and yep - "countri-fried chorus", and smokin' "countri-fried" guitar solo too. Thank you Lucy for the introduction some time ago to your music, and while I'm thinking of it, a much long overdue welcome to IAC from yours truly. While it has taken me some time to get here I must tell you that as I sat here listening to Kevin's beautiful acoustic intro, I had a hunch that when you stepped up to the mic I was going to be in for a treat. Well that is an understatement for sure - I was taken away at the first sound of your blissful voice, so very pure and sincere and dare I say gorgeous because it truly is IMHO. This is a beautiful and enchanting song ... poignant and heartfelt lyrics, wonderful instrumentation and arrangement, and production that wraps so very rapturously around your voice and your engaging harmony vocals. Free As A Dove
I can remember feeling like this one warm and beautifully fragrant night at an ocean side lounge bar overlooking the beach at Waikiki with music just like this filling my heart and caressing my soul. Feeling like this, you ask? Yes, "Free As a Dove" - peaceful, soulful, beguiled and reconciled. Flames wavered and flickered from the tops of torch lanterns casting a romantic glow among the shadows beneath gently swaying palms. As I sat there, rapt by the wonder and beauty of my surroundings and the perfumed fragrances intoxicating my senses, my mind flashed back to earlier times in lounge bars at Playboy Clubs in Los Angeles and Phoenix. So what does that have to do with this wonderfully engaging song by Maria? Everything for me!! This is what makes a song so very special for me - when the artist can whisk me away in my memory to some very special place or time in my life. As soon as this song began, I swear I could even hear the ocean waves lapping gently back and forth on that Waikiki beach, and in my wildly imaginative mind I wondered if perhaps there might have been lovers out there under that star-filled night sky wrapped in each other's arms lost in the endless promise and passion of love. This is candlelight, wine and late night soft music for dreamers and lovers whether they be curled up in each others arms in front of a glowing fireplace on a quiet winter's night, or overlooking city lights and sights, or in some serendipitous hide-away blues bar far away from the helter-skelter of life ... beautiful voice with a range that soars like that dove higher and ever higher above, sweet harmonies, beautiful lyrics, beautiful music, beguiling arrangement, disarming, irresistible and seductive. added to station 3/6/2009 2:33:16 AM

Crater City
By the time I rolled into the old cabin here tonight, kicked off my boots and stoked the fireplace with some fresh logs, I was more than ready to pour myself a Jack, crank up my old PC and head on over to my Legendary Music II station here and get started on my mission. Yep, I told myself this morning that if I didn't get over to Eaglehead's page tonight, I wasn't going to speak to myself ever again. It worked!! Here I am - finally!! So I was hoping to find something that maybe sounded a little like Southern Comfort to go with my Jack Daniels, you know, like a blues train going down a crazy river kind of a tune. Well, that's the kind of mood I was in, so I started scrolling down Eaglehead's list of songs keeping an eye out for anything that looked like what I was looking for. That's when I spotted the words "A shot at the uptown blues ... headed in the direction of T-Bone Walker and Guitar Slim". Hmmm, "Crater City" I thought, think I'll take a shot ... never been there but it sounds like it might just be the place I'm looking for tonight. Turn up the surround speakers, click "Play", and the rest, as they say, is history beginning right up front with the sweetest soulfully Stray Cat style intro that gets this blues train rolling up to speed and ready for a taste of ever so smooth spoonfuls of raunchy gotcha vocals walking and talking all around and through a heaping double serving of some of the coolest hottest guitar licks and riffs that make you just want to sachay up to the bar and double up on the Jack while these talented and gifted musicians roll this Southern Comfort blues train all the way down to "Crater City". This is classic blues - excellente amigos - great vocals, great guitars, great percussion, hell - just great everything!! Thanks for the ride Eaglehead. The first few strains of "Three O'Clock" immediately points me in the direction of an old western desert town where little clouds of dust puff out from beneath a gunslinger's boots as he slowly makes his way down the center of a deserted street passing quickly shuttered wooden store fronts, past shadows of faces apprehensively looking out from behind darkened windows and half opened doorways and saloon doors that are swinging slowly closed as someone has just darted through them to get inside and out of harm's way. Standing motionless, Navajo poncho over his shoulder, at the other end of the street is 'you know who', hat tipped over his brow, eyes narrowed and focused on the gunslinger's rendezvous with fate - it's a showdown at "Three O'Clock" while Andy plays this classical and beautifully hypnotizing requiem sonata to a date with destiny. And therein lies the magic, mystery, beauty and wonder of music that Andy captures so perfectly here. A tip of my old cowboy hat to you Andy for this consummate and ever so peaceful, yet enigmatically intriguing classical flamenco flavored masterpiece in the vein of the much gifted and talented Ottmar Liebert. added to station 11/13/2008 5:32:43 AM

2mental - Dear Momz ft. Jewelz
Here I go again folks, another example of synchronicity finding its way into my life, this time thanks to the threesome of Slimdog, 2mental and Jewelz. How's that you ask? Simplicity man, pure and plain simplicity ... you see I've been trying to get to Slimdog's Artist Page for dog's ages - hey, no pun intended!! So here I am showing up just ten days before Christmas, and what song to I choose to listen to first? Yep, you got it - "Dear Momz". So what's that got to do with synchronicity? Everything! The song was a Christmas gift to 2mental's mom, and that sure made this feel like synchronicity to me. Anyway, congrats to Slimdog, 2mental and Jewelz for picking up the Golden Kayak for Best Song Hip Hop/Rap 2007 AND for hitting # 1 on Cashbox Magazine's Top 10 Indie Picks for R&B Hip Hop - well deserved recognition and achievement in anybody's books. As for the song itself ... awesome way cool funk beat, intense and passionate vocals, poignant and polished lyrics, experienced arrangement and smooth Slimdog production ... it all adds up to one perfectly "rap-turous" dedication to "Dear Momz" here, there and everywhere. To describe the song in one word: a "Standout". Welcome to Legendary Music II. added to station 12/15/2008 5:12:19 AM

Marc Ceccotti
LM waltz
Tonight I opened the door into the amazing and incredible world of musical soundscapes by Marc Ceccotti. The experience was nothing short of a magical and beautiful reflection of memories that have been floating and meandering through the quiet corners of my mind these past few weeks - you know the kind - fleeting glimpses of days and times long past that we thought would never end, of romances that once warmed our hearts and our bodies and that we were sure were heaven sent, and of dreams ... oh yes, how well we remember now those dreams that once filled the pages of our own never ending story. Somehow in the blink of an eye it was all gone. Surprisingly, it took years to realize that it really was over, done, gone, leaving only memories to take the place that life and love had once filled. Sitting here alone in the cabin, lulled by the comforting gentle heat and the sound of cedar logs crackling in the fireplace on this bitterly cold and quietly still December moon-lit night, the winter shadows outside my window seem to be dancing on the surface of the glistening snow to the enchanting mystical strains of Marc's "LM waltz" - truly a most engaging, compelling and entrancing composition from this gifted composer and master of guitar orchestration. The picture in my mind appears timeless and endless, and yet I know come morning it will have disappeared into ashes and flickering embers in the fireplace. But like my memories, the flames will continue to burn forever, fanned by beautiful and inspirational music like I am listening to at this very moment. Thank you Marc for being here and welcome to my Legendary Music II sanctuary. added to station 12/8/2008 4:57:13 AM

The music doesn't get much more legendary than Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice It's All Right", but this time we are treated to the beautiful and gorgeous voice of Liza Lee taking this great song into new territory. Backed by a trio of consummate musicians in classic lounge bar mode, Liza paints Dylan's storied lyrics in a self-effacing and unforgettable style of warmth and passion that easily and ever so comfortably and completely pulls you under her spell. Johnny's Last Ride
Well Sam, it has been far too long since I've rode in here to see you and have a listen, but there was something calling me tonight. I had no idea what it was. Just as soon as I got here though and slipped out of the saddle, it was staring me right in the eye ... "Johnny's Last Ride". Right from the sound of those hoofs - music to my ears right there Sam, and with that steed's whinnyin' and snortin' sending a warm and familiar feeling through this old cowboy's bones, I knew that your magic was getting set to fill me with wonder and awe as only you can do in that great legendary story-telling way that you have Sam and a voice that is as entrancing and captivating as any I've ever heard ... marvel, magic and mystery flows with every word from you here Sam, as smooth as honey from a spoon and I swear just as sweet. You are in your element here my friend and riding the crest of your craft with this amazing song ... superlative and spell-binding lyrics bar none, and that old guitar of yours Sam - strumming and breathing beauty and life into this fascinating life-sized fable in front of a softly swaying melody playing gently in the distance, in the mountains perhaps, drawing me into the web of Johnny's dreams - the Changing of the Guard and that swaying Colorado pine - this is a classic Sam - a perfect reflection of yourself, and legendary in every respect. I can only imagine its importance to you and to the object of your love, but to me it says everything beautiful, caring and wonderful that you are ... deeply personal and admiring lyrics, vocals that must surely be as warm and comforting as your arms in holding this love whom you adore, and music that so very beautifully spells quiet nights and holding hands, eyes looking longingly into eyes and hearts overflowing with love ... music - truly the language of love and not said anywhere better than in "Looking Through My Eyes". added to station 10/25/2008 5:02:50 AM

SP Theme
SuperPuss gives us a special taste of her mysteriously haunting and macro-classic synth-ambient persona with her own theme ... now that's what I call "Balls" ... the "SuperPuss Theme" goes full circle and then some in more than living up to the billing with a dreamy soaring driving dance beat that reminds me of a magical night spent some years ago at the now defunct "Heaven" Russian nightclub in Brooklyn New York ... beautiful bodies bathed in streaming swirls of coloured disco lights owned the dance floor ... music moved their heads and feet and everything between ... eyes bought and sold the passion of their partners and more than the occasional wandering wannabe barfly partner ... there was nothing left for the meek and the mild ... thank the Good Lord I'm neither .. I don't know where you're pumping your sound bytes Titania, but I'd be mp3'ing your "SuperPuss Theme" straight to James Bond movie country ... Jinx could bring James to his knees with this one ... and James would go there willingly ... hey, who wouldn't? Well, you know that that pedal steel puts a special smile on my face and sweet country vibes into my listening ears. This is a great song Susan, instrumentally crossing and beautifully connecting geographical genres ... and the harmonizing and playing off of your vocals adds a really nice dimensional depth as well as 'body' and a sense of luxuriance to the song. the Rivergods
Buddha On the Road
The past week or three has taken me to both ends of the mood spectrum - from unexpected dizzying heights of exuberance, excitement, joy and honor beyond my wildest dreams, to the depths of what followed shortly after which was unrelated to the former and that still feels like a bottomless pit in a whirlpool of emptiness in my heart with one very special part of my life spinning out of control. A mentor once labeled such occurrences 'Variables of Life'. He had a hand-drawn diagram illustrating how they affect our life, and what our choices are in coping and managing them so not to become either engulfed in false pride or a victim of circumstances. Easier said than done, particularly the latter. Thank my lucky stars for music again, especially to combat those dreaded dark and lonely thoughts that lurk within us. I was introduced to The Rivergods when the lights came on at the recent round of GK nominations, and then again at the Awards Ceremony. It was love at first light! What a picture "Buddha On The Road" paints. The story could not be told more beautiful than how the "gods" tell it. This is superlative work - the music, the vocals, the arrangement and production, and the poetic words that became lyrics. You're talking to an old cowboy here so pardon the references, but this is an easy ride in the saddle song, tranquil, reflecting the life of a drifter, a loner ... even has that determined steady gait sound of horse with rider. I've had a few of those rides. The ones I loved the most were at sunrises and sunsets, those beautiful quiet times when one can best contemplate life lulled by the rocking motion of the saddle. It's happening here tonight listening to this great song ... a poignant poem set to such rich and textured acoustic sounds and sung with one of the most beautiful and haunting voices to grace and fill my thoughts for some time. Don't Give In
For anyone and everyone who has walked through the Valley of Darkness and across the Plains of Loneliness of life, Auset's "Don't Give In" is the Holy Grail of song for pining hearts emptied by loves lost and spirits crushed and despaired by life's painful costs. Strains of aching pedal steel, melancholy dusty vocals and poignant lyrics send thoughts of deeply personal yesterdays swirling through my treasure chest of memories of special times and people that played a special part in my life in years gone by filling many of my days and nights with comfort and dreams. Tempered by shadows of grief and pain and the stains from tears dried long ago and that time is slowly fading away, the ethereal presence of an understanding hand of compassion combined with the miracle of hope flows beautifully through the lyrical and musical landscape of this bittersweet ballad painting a picture of the power of the promise of one more chance to embrace the beauty of a new sunrise appearing on the horizon. Auset's gifted songwriting talent and soulful vocals mixed with the passion and melodic pleading pouring out from the instruments of her compatriot musicians shines a light deep inside the darkest of corners, gently offering peace and comfort to weary and disquieted hearts and uplifting burdened spirits. Anytime you call
When I came to Karl's page tonight, I was looking for one song to bring to Legendary Music II. One song for Pete's sake ... now tell me, how could that be a problem? Well, it was very easy - I found more than a dozen on Karl's page!!! I rest my case!! By the time that I had listened to each song on the way down the list and then on the way back up, my musical palate felt like it had had more than one too many to be in any position to know which one had been the best, or to choose one over the other, although I was certain that each one was the best, and perhaps, just perhaps, that each one as I went along had touched me in some special way more than the previous one had done. My sampling of Karl's beautiful music had turned out to be quite like an invitation to an evening of fine wine tasting where each sample had that 'je ne sais quoi', that certain something, that indescribable - intangible perhaps - attractive attribute and alluring quality capturing my senses. It came as no surprise to me then that by the time I had got back to the first song on the list, that my choice would in fact be the first AND the last song that I had listened to, "Anytime you call" ... pensive, wistful and poignant lyrics describing the mystery of love and its illusiveness, masterful acoustic guitar so beautifully played so as to not overplay Karl's solid vocals and harmonies, and an orchestral depth giving the song a feeling of a beautiful dreamscape filling my listening cup to the very brim and overflowing .... my first and last choice of Karl's songs this evening for Legendary Music II. Love Song (band version)
I have no idea why it has taken me soooo long to get to Hugh's page, just to come in, sit down and listen to this highly respected artist at work, or play, as it no doubt is to Hugh. It isn't that I haven't seen Hugh around the halls here at IAC before now and know that he is loved by all. Rather it's just like so many other talented artists that I have yet to get around to visiting and saying howdy to. Well, I'm finally here Hugh, and while that doesn't call for a celebration in Dodge, I can assure you that it definitely is a treat for this old cowboy. Now before I get into my song of choice here, let me tell you how much I enjoyed the "As You Like It" Trailer 3 video clip. I had fun just watching it - truly entertaining. Okay, where was I now? Oh yeah, my choice of song. How I do love a love song like the kind Hugh pours his heart out here. Right from the opening piano riff that drifts so smoothly and perfectly into a Lennon-like melody, you know exactly where this one is going, and if you're like me, you just want to get right up in front of the stage and stand and watch and listen as this talented and gifted man spells out the meaning of love and just how much it means to him from verse to verse, chorus to chorus. To say the lyrics are beautiful and moving is an apologetic understatement. Great guitar riffs, fills and accents, and your dusty melting vocals are all over this one Hugh, missing nothing and hitting everything, profusely, joyously and overflowing, truly filling the cup of love and life in song. By the time the song ended the first time I played it through, I found myself aching and longing so much inside to say the same words to someone, sing to her the same beautiful way and feel the same kind of magic that Hugh feels with every beat of his lovelorn heart in "Love Song". Sure glad I made it here tonight Hugh and I'm glad to make you a special part of my life. Vincenzo Pandolfi
If I could play the guitar
I closed my eyes here and dreamed that I was sat on a hilltop covered from top to bottom and all around in the most beautiful display of wild flowers .. yellow, red, orange, white and blue .. some short, some tall .. swaying gently in the warm summer breeze. The sun was a glowing golden orb high in a cloudless clear blue sky. I could see for miles and miles. In the distance a small group of children had gathered. Some were running and playing in carefree abandon, their voices full of joy, laughter and happiness. Some others were holding hands standing close by a figure of a man sat on a ledge playing a guitar. There were no sights or sounds of hunger, fear, pain or war. The beauty of the world bathed in music, song and stories shines brilliantly like gold through the eyes, ears and hearts of children I thought to myself. The melody and the song drifted softly through the air reaching where I was seated on the hill. I recognized the man from when he had visited my page recently and had left kind words - Vincenzo Pandolfi - a warm, friendly, traveled and gentle man and a most gifted musician. I quickly recognized the song he was singing and playing, "If I Could Play The Guitar". I had heard nothing quite so beautiful and comforting in a long time. The words and lyrics were simple and yet profound, eloquent and full of hope. The music sounded like it was coming from an orchestra of angels in heaven. Vincenzo stood up slowly, appearing to be talking to the children as he put his guitar back into its case, carefully collecting a few other belongings. He began to walk away, turning around once and smiling as he waved goodbye. The song continued to play in my mind as he disappeared out of sight. Thank you Vincenzo, I said to myself, for this beautiful song. May our paths cross one day I whispered hopefully. added to station 4/28/2008 3:02:32 AM

Village Jammers
Interlude
Stress levels were high today and energy levels were equally low. It didn't make for a good day. I couldn't even muster up one of those TGIF grunts!! Still, it was a beautiful spring day, one of the nicest that we have had so far this year. I was in and out of the cabin all day trying to enjoy the encouraging fresh spring air being warmed to summer-like temps. Inside, old Rascal struggled through another day. How he keeps going on what he doesn't eat is a miracle. Maybe he doesn't want to go as much as I don't want him to go. I know that he looks forward to this time of the day, or dusk as it is now, the time when we try to forget what didn't go right during the day and are thankful for what did, and blessed for any time that we get to spend together in music. I found the perfect song to match my pensive and serendipitous mood - "Interlude" by the Village Jammers. I'm watching an amazing golden purple sunset slowly drifting below the horizon, and the Village Jammers are making it one of the most beautiful I've seen and felt in a long time. Yes, these guys are making me feel this one, just like the ones I've been promised by a special someone in Texas. I don't want this sunset to end and I don't want this great song to end. These guitars that the Jammers are pickin' and strummin' are so sweet, soft and enchantingly classical, talking back and forth to each other the way they do. I can close my eyes and see Superstition Mountain and hundreds of those odd-armed Saguaro cacti stretched like silhouettes up and own both sides. While I'm listening and dreaming, I'm also counting blessings and giving thanks for another day and for old Rascal still here, and for beautiful music like the kind the Jammers have finished my day with. Fyrefly
Prime Dream
I didn't even have time to close my eyes before I slipped right into this "Prime Dream". I was caught totally unprepared for the magical carousel I was taken on - much to my hedonistic delight trapped in Fyrefly's web. Thank heavens there was no way out. There was no time to get into my usual ramble about the ups and downs of my days and nights and life here at the cabin!! Good Lord, right after the oh soooooo cool intro knocked, whip-sawed and slipped like a precociously naked nymph into my psyche opening up the door to my subconscious dreamscape, this one hit the tracks in a potent kaleidoscopic mix of sounds and whirlwind of lyrics, powerful vocals, rich and dynamic harmonies transcending into disharmonious strings, whistles and hands full of steely forks scratching on china plates reminding me of that euphorically maniacal state of warped and liquid exotica that the mind can twist itself into when left to its own devices. As soon as I regained some semblance of control of what was happening, I went straight for my headphones determined to pour this eclectic cherry-go-round of sound into blow my brains up mental imagery - quite a trick really for an old cowboy to try to pull off. Okay, so I didn't want any part of this to get away from me. No law against that anywhere is there? I don't know if I can find my way back to the beginning, in fact I might still be a prisoner, but no matter, I loved being taken hostage by Fyrefly's "Prime Dream". This is amazing and penetrating song writing combined with dazzling arrangement and production - a musical mind-bending four-minute dizzying journey into love's astro-illogical black hole. Well, load me up and shoot me again! On another score, this one struck so very close to home and love and to my own primal fears and dreams. Enough said. Corrado Rossi
Where
I'm wrapped in candlelight, the flame flickering and casting shadows all around the room. I'm melancholy for sure. I've felt more than one lump in my throat over the past few hours. My eyes are moist, close to tears. Old Rascal may make it through the night, and he may not. I'm doing all I can to keep him warm and comfortable as I watch him slip slowly away from me. When he looks up at me, his eyes are soft, warm and deep, questioning perhaps what is happening. He is such a trooper, and a fighter the way he has been hanging on for several days now. I painfully try to judge if and when I should make the call to bring this to an end for him. God only knows how much I will miss him. We are not strong when it comes to losing someone or something that we love so much. Tonight I am introspective, my thoughts inner directed, searching for answers. Why, what, when and how ... and where do we go when we go from here. Surely there must be more to all of this than just living and dying. I needed some very special music to comfort my thoughts as I pine away the night vigilantly with Rascal. Here is where Corrado Rossi came to my rescue, no pun intended. Appropriately his song is called "Where". Fittingly, and suiting the night, it is a solo - an absolutely beautiful and engaging piano solo from one very gifted and talented artist. The song plays over and over, a crescendo of sound rising and falling, filling the empty spaces surrounding me, making the night and my time with Rascal seem longer than it might otherwise be, seducing my mind into believing that perhaps it might be endless. And yet, I know better. Still, Corrado does this with such a gentle ease and beauty that I'm almost compelled to believe there may be a reprieve instead of a requiem. Prayer floats through my mind. I have resolved for this night that the 'where' is right here, right now. Thank you so very much Corrado for giving this night and this beauty to us.
