Right around the turn of the century, The South City Voices began to emerge onto the Atlanta music scene. Several years earlier, charter members Don Discenza, Derk Simonson, and Rebecca Windham, while developing their own solo careers, experienced a variety of permutations under several different names throughout a 5 year period before the group came to be called what it is today. The end result was the addition of lead soprano’s Jaide Fried and Shawn Megorden in the summer of 2005 and tour dates throughout the country with nationally acclaimed pianist Mac Frampton and his Hollywood Hills Orchestra, culminating in the October, 2003 debut CD release of ""Got Swing!"", a rich diversity of rhythm section and a cappella numbers, co-produced with Bill Allgood and featuring original arrangements of classic jazz standards by Rebecca and Don.

Today, the South City Voices are a rare blend of style, class, hip rhythms, and tight vocal harmonies that are keeping alive this wonderful American art form we call jazz. Sometimes compared with Manhattan Transfer, these southerners are delighting audiences everywhere with their smooth, silky sound, dynamic stage presentation, and outstanding band of world class jazz musicians.

Most recently, South City Voices is becoming a force of its own in Atlanta after a triumphant debut series of concerts at Libby’s Cabaret, Atlanta’s’ top jazz venue, performing arts guest appearances with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra and with their own talented 5 musicians around metro Atlanta, and now the return to Libby’s. SCV enjoys the on-going support of the Atlanta jazz radio station WCLK 91.9fm. The coming year boasts several performing arts center concerts in south Florida as well as Atlanta, beginning discussions on a couple very interesting projects, and a recent trip in January to establish contacts with Los Angeles jazz clubs and the Las Vegas scene.

“Having had the good fortune to work with South City Voices in a performance/ educational setting, I found the group to be highly professional. I was impressed with the quartet's musicianship, spontaniety and flexibility. It was a joy to work with and listen to them!”
Larry Lapin, Professor and Program Director Studio Music and Jazz/Vocal Program

Aided by excellent arrangements and some fine instrumentalists, the Voices’ new CD swings straight through. An interweaving of vocal harmonies and rotating solo parts is punctuated throughout by the work or some fine playing and quality production.

""South City Voices is a talented Atlanta-area jazz vocal quartet closely modeled on the Manhattan Transfer but also evoking the jazz-classical fusion of the Swingle Singers. The group has the potential to do well in the mainstream jazz market. ""

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

South City Voices CD is about to be aired in Atlanta on WKGE 1160 am radio, ""The Music Of Your Life"" during the 8:30 am M-F ""Swing Corner"" show hosted by Bob Neal. If you like what you hear, let them know at 404-223-1160. It's all about support. And visit their web site www.am1160.net and see who their hosts are. If you haven't aleady discovered 1160 am it's probably because they, just recently, boosted their signal (50,000 watts). Before, it was hard to get them. It's Atlanta's only Oldies and Goodies station. We've been without one for too long. We feel very honored that they are going to include us in their rotation.

Also, Clark Radio WCLK, 91.9 fm, Atlantas full time jazz station, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm, Renee Williams hosting - we're in their rotation as well.
