Her first cut as a songwriter, "Another Broken Hearted Girl," was the last song on her mom June Carter Cash's first-ever solo album, "Appalachian Pride" (produced by her step-dad Johnny Cash in 1975). Her first cut as a singer, "Friendly Gates" (which Country Music magazine called "a nice straight-forward ballad"), came the year before on the Cash album "The Junkie And The Juicehead (Minus Me)." And now Carlene Carter's most recent cut as both writer and singer, "It Takes One To Know Me," closes the 2005 Cash box-set ("The Legend")--with her new vocal added to a long-lost demo tape of Johnny and June singing a song Carlene wrote for Cash when she was just 19 years old and didn't have money to buy him a birthday present. Another family circle remains unbroken. Though needless to say, a lot has happened in the years in-between.

Recently, Carlene recorded with the group Volatile Baby on a version of The Carter Family classic "Fifty Miles Of Elbow Room." The recording is for the Volatile Baby CD produced by Don Dixon. Also Carlene played a dear part, portraying her mother in the musical "Wildwood Flowers: The June Carter Story" last year.

Carlene is currently performing, which includes the popular 13th Annual Trucker & Music Festival.
