In the boiling cauldron of today’s competitive music scene, Chronic Stew rises to the surface as the cream of the crop. Nourishing genre malnutrition with classic ingredients absent from the current cuisine, Chronic Stew’s culinary formula produces a feast of musical morsels harvested from the choicest rock and roll: Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Beatles and other early inspirations are blended with the likes of more contemporary flavors, such as Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam, to season the band’s original music.
Comprised of four musicians, Chronic Stew is driven by the creative spirit of guitarist and principal songwriter, Richard Metcalfe. Sophisticated arrangements and compelling messages cater to the bands pop, rock and progressive influences. The lyrics are passionate and the language poetic. Metcalfe’s original song, Gunshots, ranked a top-ten position from over 1,700 submissions on Neil Young’s political website, “Living With War Today”. The song addresses the confusion, chaos, and anger surrounding warfare of all types. Says Metcalfe, “Gunshots is not specifically aimed at the current Middle-East situation. It’s more an examination of the reality of living with turmoil; be it international or inner city.”
Assisting Metcalfe with this melodic smorgasbord are vocalist Rick Zavadil, bassist Trip Brown, and drummer Patrick Duffy. All add their unique garnishment of vocal harmonies to this flavorful recipe. Additionally, each member has professionally performed and recorded throughout Southern and Central California in previous band incarnations. 2006 saw two members take top honors from a field of over 60 in the Ventura County Battle of the Bands.
With over 25 originals and twice that number in classic cover songs, Chronic Stew has established a loyal local following. Consummately professional and continuously musical, Chronic Stew is always an appetizing entrée.
