Dave Howard
The songwriter's songwriter
Singer-songwriter Dave Howard was born and raised on the east coast, spending his formative years as a musician and his early teens in Brooklyn, New York.

Howard had been a student of the guitar since the age of six. But it was during his years as a student at Edward R. Murrow High School that he began writing songs and jamming in bands influenced by the burgeoning New York garage and punk rock scenes.

At age 16, Dave relocated to San Diego and continued writing and playing in garage bands. He recorded dozens of songs on a four-track cassette recorder and his group, The Aluminum Bears submitted ""91 Songs for 91x"" on four 90-minute cassettes to then Loudspeaker host, Marco Collins.

In 1990, Dave began working at the Metaphor Cafe in Escondido. It was here that he met folk musicians like John Katchur, Jeff Berkley, Frank Drennen and Joel Rafael. Bolstered by his exposure to so many songwriters with common interests, Howard immersed himself in the growing acoustic music scene and began to churn out a large catalog of new material.

His peers quickly developed an appreciation for his wit, lyrical depth and his deft guitar style. It wasn't long before Katchur, Gregory Page and Lisa Sanders would take interest in his songs for their own repertoire.

In 2000, Dave Howard released his first solo recording on compact disc. ""Unbelievable Unknown"" landed him critical acclaim and a nomination for Best Acoustic Artist at that year's San Diego Music Awards. That year, Howard also had collaboration s appear on albums with co-writers A.J. Croce and Calman Hart (Berkley-Hart). Gregory Page also covered Howard's ""Rain and the Thunder"" on his Music for Mortals CD.

Since then, Howard's songs and collaborations have been recorded by local and national acts more than sixteen times, making him San Diego's most-covered songwriter. Dave's songs have also been featured in television programs on NBC, CW, PBS and on NPR radio.

In 2004, Howard released his second disc, ""Into The Wind"", produced by Sven-Erik Seaholm. Dave released a live recording, ""Live at the Sierra Theatre"" in late 2007.

Howard continues to perform at house concerts and showcases. His most recent projects include a series of ambient meditation tracks, songwriting workshops and seminars.

Most recently, he has been busy writing songs for indie garage rock outfit The Shamey Jays.
