Josh Hill, a local songwriter, attempted to follow up his 2002 acoustic release “No More Words” with a series of songs with full band arrangements. High School friend Mitch Wyatt teamed up with Josh to produce a three song demo that would form the basis of what was then known as The Josh Hill Band. After playing a few shows with stand-in musicians, the two quickly realized the potential of a collective band. Following the recruitment of bassist, JD Carlson, the three decided on a more cohesive band name—The Josh Hill Band became known as Ellison. Along with the name change came also a change in style. “When JD joined the band our music morphed into a more indie rock sound. Whereas the older songs were slower in tempo and more acoustically based, the new songs are catchy straightforward pop rock tunes,” asserts drummer, Mitch Wyatt. The new songs also contained a modest amount of subtle guitar leads, thus seeing the need for a second guitarist. In June of 2005 the trio stumbled across the band's newest member, Ian Bolender. “Ian adds a fullness and dynamic to the band we haven't achieved live before,” says singer and guitarist Josh Hill. With member's ages ranging from 19 to their early 20's, this young band from Cincinnati, OH is ready to cause a buzz with their 2005 release “Indecisive and Halfhearted.” “…the threesome runs through six tracks of passionate and accessible Pop music. The songs bear some of the trademarks of ""Emo,"" but there's a more graceful, grown-up edge,” says music editor Mike Breen of Citybeat . The disc is solely DIY (mixed and recorded by drummer Mitch Wyatt). “Everything about the EP is done remarkably well and professionally—from the performances, songs and studio clarity to the CD packaging and slick ""behind the scenes"" mini-documentary included on the disc.” (Breen) “Indecisive and Halfhearted” is a clear indication that Ellison is ready to expand into new markets and garner the attention of the industry in an attempt to become a full time band.
