Nineteen year-old Lindsay Bennett has had her share of being in
the spotlight. While living in Iliamna, Alaska, she demoed for
an independent filming company at the age of five. Although
this did not blossom into a career, it caused the musician in her
blood to flow. Lindsay began to experiment with music on the
family keyboard, and enjoyed singing herself to sleep with tunes
from ""The Little Mermaid"".
Perhaps the greatest decision that her family ever made for her
was their journey to Spartanburg, where she enrolled in public
school. There, she landed several leading roles in elementary
school plays, Lindsay began what has turned out to be the ride
of her life in the world of entertainment. At the age of nine, she
performed with her father, Joe Bennett of ""Joe Bennett & The
Sparkletones"", at Spartanburg's West-Gate Mall during JB
White's grand opening. By the time she was eleven, she had
performed at the Asheville, North Carolina Civic Center at a
rodeo event where she clogged to and sang ""Cowboy
Sweetheart"", and performed a variety of songs at the annual
Spartanburg Spring Fling. In 1998, her parents signed her up
for what they thought to be ""pop voice lessons"" at the Converse
College Pre-College program, where she began training in folk,
Broadway, and Opera. Lindsay was only twelve at the time, and
students under the age of fifteen were not allowed to enroll in
private vocal lessons with her instructor, Dr. Valerie MacPhail.
Oblivious to this policy, Lindsay continued her lessons, while her
teacher thought she was at least fifteen. When the discovery of
her true age arose, Dr. MacPhail agreed upon continuing her
lessons because Lindsay's voice was quite advanced for a
twelve year-old.
At thirteen, she performed the National Anthem for the first time
at the Flinthill National Rodeo, and has now performed there for
5 years in a row. As a freshman in high school, Lindsay joined
the show choir and chorus, and landed the leading role as Rosie
Alvarez in ""Bye Bye Birdie"". That summer, she began recording
Classical songs along with a Contemporary Christian single. At
fifteen, she appeared in two music videos for recording artist,
Ricky Moody, and filmed for British rock band J-39. She was
also a quarter-finalist contestant on ""Ed McMahon's Next Big
Star Internet Music Video Contest"", top 13 finalist on ""Showtime
at the Apollo"" at the Greenville Peace Center, is Miss Teen
Spartanburg 2002, and Spartanburg County's Junior Miss 2003.
She has appeared as Liesl von Trapp in the Spartanburg Little
Theater's 2003 production of ""The Sound of Music"", Maria in
""Westside Story"", Bo-Peep in ""Babes In Toyland"", Cinderella in
""Into The Woods"", and was recently cast as the lead character in
an original musical called ""Threads of Hope"". Lindsay is also a
member of the Spartanburg Little Theater Traveling Cast,
""Downstage Center"", and has participated in performances all
across the east coast. She has also starred as an
entertainer/anchor on the new television show ""Hey
Atlanta...Could You Give Us One Little Hour...Please?"". Lindsay
is a LDS Recording artist featured on LDSMUSICWORLD.com.
She has demoed for composer and arranger, Sally DeFord, and
has begun work on her very first album which features songs by
DeFord as well as hymns that Lindsay arranged herself. She
has also started to write her own pop and LDS songs with the
help of her father. Lindsay is an active member of the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she serves as the Choir
Director and Primary Pianist. She currently attends Converse
College where she is a vocal performance major. While she
would love to pursue a career in Opera or musical theater, her
ultimate goal is to strengthen and uplift others by sharing her
testimony and faith through song. She is going on a ""mini-tour""
to Salt Lake City, UT, as well as Rexburg, ID where she will be
singing at firesides, the Gateway Mall, and possibly other areas.
