Southampton based alternative rock band My
Mantra are the newest signing to Independent
Label, 'In With The Out Crowd Records'
My Mantra's debut album 'Seven' arrives in solid,
riff driven, groove orientated style.
Believing the ethos, that the very best pieces of
music are based on a solid simple rhythm, the
album 'Seven' brings you first & foremost "Songs"
with Melody and Groove. Combined with hooks,
dynamics and choruses you simply CANNOT
escape from ...
Whether it's a fast paced rock song, or a slow &
heavy grind, the band feel the most important
element is that each song has to have a
groove ... A groove with energy that harnesses
and creates emotion.
Evolving from a wide ranging collective of teenage
treasured records; My Mantra take the best
from the likes of Metallica, Pearl Jam, Alice In
Chains, Nirvana, through to even Portishead &
REM!
In fact just about anything of any quality and
churn it out into music that lives and grows
within each band member on it’s own terms,
unprovoked, un-compromised just there for the
taking!
Formed in Southampton at the tail end of 2003,
from the ashes of two other bands, Glenn Lovell
and Edd Wright joined forces with Duncan
Whitfield and Dave Clapp, and from the very first
ecstatic rehearsal, there was a feeling of mutual
understanding within the band from all four
corners of the room.
Combining their influences with their own
individual love of music, past experiences and
lyrical expression, My Mantra have created
in 'Seven' an album that takes you on a journey of
pure energy, with crunching guitar riffs, frantic
explosive percussion all tied together with
melodic infectious song-writing.
And this is music that HAS to be performed ...
With a live show that exudes confidence and
passion, leaving audiences chanting for more, My
Mantra's reputation in the South of England is
becoming increasingly hard to ignore.
Following some highly successful support slots
of the Norwegian band Span, Icelands very own
Minús and Colour Of Fire, My Mantra are gearing
to take the show on the road during the summer
of 2005 on a heavy promotional campaign for the
album.
Live review of My Mantra @ the Joiners,
Southampton. Supporting Minús 07th July 04
'My Mantra opened the night, playing to an
already busy Joiners Arms. First impressions
suggest that these chaps play 90`s rock with big
riffs and powerful drums and bass, but there are
other elements to the songs that draw
comparisons with the heavier moments of Feeder.
The vocal is angsty and in your face while
maintaining an emotional and tuneful edge and
the overall result is a well-crafted, professional
sound. With enough variety in their set and
consistency in their sound, My Mantra were the
best band on the night'. Steve / www.the

‘Seven’ Review
Whilst unashamedly utilising every influence from
the last 3 years of rock, but at the same time
able to weed out the cringe-worthy rock clichés of
old and inject something new and vibrant into a
flagging genre of modern contemporary music,
My Mantra are a breath of fresh air in an other
wise NME friendly, celebrity fuelled media circus
of hype and the ‘next big thing’. My Mantra play
hard rock how it should be played in the year
2005! - Mike Spall / www.southscene.net
