Pillar of Autumn was formed in summer 2003 after some personnel changes and creative challenges caused the departure of Mourning Star’s lead singer. The band, who had been together since 2000, regrouped with singer Rob Lesniak to pave the way for their new sound. Rob brought with him a different kind of energy that was immediately felt, and the band had a resurgence of excitement. The new sound was more textured with melodic and synth guitar lines overlapping strong vocal melodies on a foundation of a driving rhythm section. Unfortunately in fall 2004 they lost a guitarist to the Communist Party and were searching once again for another member. After a few auditions, Ed Gawlik, the band’s bass player, was the only person who seemed to be able to fill the shoes and write the same style of creative guitar lines using a guitar synth. After finding bass player Derek Buczynski and two years since their inception Pillar of Autumn is moving along stronger than ever. With the release of the 5 song EP titled ‘The Unavoidable Collapse’ and a music video for the 1st track ‘Breaking Point’, the band is rapidly becoming known throughout Detroit. They are currently searching for management and label support, and continue to record at The Tempermill in Ferndale, MI, finishing the last 5 of 14 possible tracks to be put on their CD which is anticipated to be released in Fall 2005. While continuing their effort to become a national act, Pillar of Autumn has been playing locally at every venue possible, and has kept in touch with local radio station 89x (88.7) to finalize their trip to the studio for an interview while playing their CD on air during ‘The Homeboy’ show with ‘Kelly Brown’.
