Silverbird is a collective of musicians hailing from San Diego California that fuse the finest elements of Country, Rock, Pop, Americana, and Folk into a delectable blend of classic and contemporary sounds that are as excitingly fresh as they are comfortingly familiar. Formed in the fall of 2006 and consisting of singer/songwriter and guitar player Justin Rodriguez, pianist/vocalist Robin Eisenberg, and bassist Robert Ivy, Silverbird’s sound is a beautiful mixture of original and innovative songwriting with a passion for 60’s and 70’s classics, traditional country, folk, psych, and blues played by musicians that grew up on the punk and indie rock of the 80’s and early 90’s. Even when they’re wearing influences on their sleeve, Silverbird’s approach leave them sounding like no one else in contemporary music. Having been labeled everything from Americana to Alt. Country to Folk Rock, Silverbird is a group that set out to challenge all preconceived notions of what these genres entail and the limitations of said genres. When pressed to describe the music, Rodriguez prefers to use the term “Cosmic American Music”, a phrase borrowed from Gram Parsons when Parsons himself was asked to describe the music he created in the late 1960’s which was credited with bridging the gap between country music and rock and roll. With it’s members coming from a range of bands with some level of national and/or international success (including Counterfit, Labrador, Corrugated, and Bolgazohdoomah) the members of Silverbird are no strangers to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that come with playing music professionally, especially touring. Having been a band for just under a year Silverbird has already played extensively throughout their hometown of San Diego and the surrounding areas and plan to tour at length throughout the latter half of 2007 and onward. Upcoming releases include a split 7" set for release in early 2008 on Capeside Records with Michigan's own Empty Orchestra, as well as plans for a full length to be recorded and released in early 2008.
