Penny Century hail from Ostertsund, a town in nothern Sweden renowned for, er...not an awful lot, until now. After releasing four Eps, Between A Hundred Lies, their debut full length offering, is an exceptional and inspired collection of intelligent and, frankly, mature song writing, delighting with its uplifting melodies and the heavenly voice of Julia Hanberg. Demonstrating a canny knack for composing songs that combine elements of 60s girl groups and new wave pop (a la Blondie and The Pretenders) such as 'Please Don't Go', they're also smart enough to add effective brass, with an occassional touch of viloin and banjo too, that helps propel their brtight, infectious sound skywards. Between A Hundred Lies is a glorious debut from a Swedis band displaying a disproportiante amount of talent for such a young age. Absolute pop perfection.

PENNY CENTURY´S CORNER OF THE WORLD A seldom told story is the one of the sprawling popscene in Ostersund, a rather isolated town in the north of Sweden. No, we kid you not. The city by the lake has spawned lots of great groups, it´s just that no one has ever noticed.
Originally playing in different punk, rock or indie-groups the six soon-to-be creators of the most beautiful northern popmusic imaginable met each other in their mid-teens. Since there isn´t much to do in this corner of the world you could by that age either pick up heavy drinking or start writing songs. Penny Century chosed booth. It was acctually on strangers balconies, in blizzering snowstorms on their way to parties or just during friendly afternoon drinking they really leared to know one another.
The songs often revisit this time of comming of age, a time of getting to know yourself and the best of friends at the same time. Other reacurring subjects of the lyrics is family, guilt and love- lost or longed for.
The tunes is the yellowed pictures of a family photoalbum, loveletters that never were sent or just damn good popsongs with great vocals, jangly guitars, soaring melodies and catchy choruses.
After releasing four EPs that displayed a genuine belief in pop-music´s ability to move its listeners Penny Century were signed to Letterbox Records.
Alltough the members of Penny Century are still just in their early twenties they have established themselves as exeptionally gifted songwriters.
A lot of playing live has also earned them the repuation of being a supringsingly explosive liv-act.
Songs like these rarely fails in its aim to affect people, at least everybody with blood in their vains. But most importantly, these are songs that preferably shouldn´t be read about, but heard. So, what are you waiting for?
