Jackie the band on 'Jackie' Syd: One day we were tapping into our feminine side and it kinda came to us.. Nikki: Isn't that what you'd want to be called if you were a girl? It's such a great name for a band I'm surprised no one else thought of it ..... Jonesy: It just captured our he/she... him/her...slightly girly side. Syd: ...... leaning towards androgyny without becoming gay or transvestite. Jonesy: You know it's how we'll all end up in thousands of years time... all of us kind of androgenous, the sexes less seperate physically. Nikki Syd: It's true Nikki: Boys'll get hips, as the girls get more muscley......The genders are just becoming more assimilated in thought and appearance. Syd: Like as we move futher away from being primitive hunter gatherers our bodies and minds are slowly morphing into a new form and there's nothing we can do about it......... Nikki: That's why we embrace the inevitable...it's why we're Jackie Jonesy: And u you know what's causing it all?............................. tap water. [PAUSE] Nikki: When we go out we dress up cos we want to look good and we want people to notice us Syd: Yeh, when Jackie goes out she wants to look her best. Jonesy: A gig is our night out ..... it has to be a performance, it has to look and feel right Nikki: Looking right comes from feeling right and alot of it comes from the details and that's what the wigs are about. It has to be more than what you'd wear to go round the shops, it has to feel like a dare, a bit dangerous, like..... would we really do it when it came to it? and we would and we did. Jonesy: And red is the colour of danger. Syd: We're directly tapping into that whole 18th century vibe,.... you know, storming of the Bastille and all that revolutionary shit. Syd: We're kind of post-modern Beethoven Jonesy: ................................. with guitars. Syd: Anyway it's only a question cos we're boys not girls..... loads of women dress up every Friday & Saturday and wear wigs as well. And women dress to feel good, and although we are all individually male - the group isn't totally male as the name suggests. Jonesy: Yeh, I'm wearing my silk underwear and suspenders now as we speak Nikki: Yeh, right Syd: Jackie doesn't look like us, she's got her own look... it's our resonsibility to get the look right. Nikki: The point is that the group is more than the individuals in it. It's got its own personality which is different from ours. Syd: We think individuals are good but groups are better. Jonesy: It's got it's own personality and it's called Jackie. You can draw your own conclusions. Nikki: Anyway, we're not into explanations, we're into confusion. [END]
