ULIS is one of the leading Belarusian rock groups. They sing their own compositions in Belarusian language. ULIS made its first public performance in Minsk in March 1989. The band has released nine albums.
The song ""Radyjo Svaboda"" (Radio Freedom), composed in 1990, has become an anthem of radiostation RADIO FREE EUROPE RADIO LIBERTY.
Sinse 1989 ULIS has participated in concetrts & festivals Minsk, Brest, Grodno, Novogrudok (Belarus), Moscow, Kaliningrad (Russia), Chernovtsy (Ukraine), Sopot (Poland), Bialystok ( Poland), Augsburg (Germany), London (England).
The most significant shows were at:
Basoviszcza festival (Bialystok, Poland 1990- 2005);
Syrok festival (Moscow 1990);
Musicians of the World to Children of Chernobyl (Minsk 1990);
Clean Water Rock festival (Minsk 1990);
Rock Summer festival (Tallin 1991);
Rock Mafia festival (Sopot, Poland 1991);
29th Sopot Festival (Poland 1992).
Through 1991-1993 ULIS played gigs in clubs & pubs in Augsburg (Germany). In the autumn of 1993 ULIS appeared in London, playing 6 gigs in local clubs.
ULIS played with such groups as: JETHRO TULL, THE STRANGLERS, KAOMA, HAVANA BLACK, LENINGRAD COWBOYS, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, NITZER EBB, MARILLION, MECCA, HOLY JOY, etc
The group consists of:
Viachaslau Koran - guitar, vocal, music, lyrics, the producer of the group.
Pavel Yarmochanka - drums.
Natallia Kunitskaya - keys.
Viktar Samarukau - Bass - guitar.
ULIS has always been developing its music, never stopped on the achieved results, and never obeyed the stylistic limits imposed by the Belarusian officials. ULIS has never been afraid of experimenting with music, and that is why the music it is playing now is totally different from what the bans has been playing 16 years ago.
