Born in Birmingham a long long long time ago (I think you get the picture) brought up on Rock “n” Roll the Beatles, Stones, all those great early sixties songs that followed the Beatles, the summer of love (not that i got any at 13) with those trippy songs of 1967. Hendrix he was mind blowing at that time when their were no guitar effects Jimmi had a mate who was a electronics wizzard to come up with some effects, and no body used feedback or overdriven volume apart from Pete Townsend of the Who but Jimmi had all the tricks and lead playing technique. When I bought “All along the watchtower” a Dylan song of which Hendrix admired greatly that blew me away “big style” I remember 1967 putting it on my mom & dads stereogram and actually turning the volume right up and sticking my head right in the cabinet over the record deck and that guitar solo will haunt me for life.
I had nagged my old man for a guitar for a while then Xmas in 66 santa got me a right handed Spanish style guitar with steel strings and having tried to learn at school with a music teacher that was a knob “and why” because I was naturally left handed and all the other kids were right handed and I played my guitar left handed but one big problem my music teacher (the knob) never told me you had to change the strings, transpose them so after much frustration I gave up before I got started
Then 1969 came Bowie with Space Oddity and then to follow Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sain. I still wanted to play an instrument I always liked the Sax from the rock ‘n’ roll era through to Bowie using it on his tracks so I started to learn the guitar and later got an Alto sax and taught my self how to sound like a seal on heat.
I left Birmingham for Burnham on Sea in Somerset in 1975 and my first band was Dingo and the Wilde Dogs which i formed in 1977, i wrote 22 songs which verged into new wave era, which was a great learning curve for me fronting the band singing and playing guitar.
Then in 1978 i was asked to join a local band playing guitar mainly doing covers, Santana, Steely Dan plus a few funk numbers and also writing our own stuff a kind of jazz funk come rock.... and I soon got pissed off with that.
In 1982 having kind of mastered the sax (well got a few notes out of it) a friend of mine asked me to play Sax on some new songs the band he played keyboards in had written and that was the start of a long journey for me in Renagade Flight a new romantic band that turned into a Gothic rock band by late 1984, of which i spent seven years with them playing sceaming Alto and Tenor Sax these were great times we had a single and a video (on you Tube under Renegade Flight) out but because the band were from Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset we had a hard time getting a record deal in 1986 even though myself and Gary Wilde (The fantastic front man of the band) came from Birmingham it seemed it was not cred to come from the west country at that time........ well not till 1990 anyway with Ronnie Size, Portishead and Massive attack and by that time we had split.
In1988 i left to join a soul band called the Orphans which i enjoyed playing my sax in a duo brass section it there is such a thing.
By 1993 i started dabbling with Mac computers after using them in 1986 for sampling with sequencing and keyboards and then started on a solo project and asked my very good friend from Renegade flight front man and lyricyst Gary Wild and so we embarked on a journey of moody songs and vocals with heavy guitar big strings and screaming alto sax under the guise of WILDE PLANT which we produce 2 albums ADORATION and The Circle.
In !996 met my wife Teresa who had great talent and hunger for singing and then i got into writing with her on a completely new direction of Trance music and a bit of Garage and putting out a couple of CD,s and having a Trance single out on the island of Gran Caneria called ""Playa Del Inglais"" and we plugged it on a couple of radio stations there..
Having moved back to Birmingham with Teresa from Burnham on Sea in 2000 and set up my New studio went back playing more guitar and formed a band called The Birmingham Blues Band which we had a great band playing in and around Birmingham with my wife Teresa out front singing.
We disbanded in 2004. I also played my Sax in a few bars in Birmingham to chill out and trance music through 2002 to 2004.
2009
Having had a break i am now back writing a new solo project which i hope you will enjoy some of the Trax.
There is talent in the family, as you see my sir name is Plant and guess what i am NOT related to Robert but to Bev Bevan drummer with The Move and ELO (Electrtic Light Orchestra) he is my mothers cousin....... all though we have never met in later years it would be nice to chat about music and have a jam.
