ABOUT HAZY HAMLET
Almost a decade on the road, the group from Maringa-PR, Brazil, was established in 1999, and has in its curriculum two demos and a single, which earned it much attention in its first five years of career.
Lovers of old cars, valve amplifiers, analog synthesizers, vinyl records and Nordic mythology, Hazy Hamlet - composed of Arthur Migotto (V), Fabio Nakahara (B), Julio Bertin (G) and Cadu Madera (D) - tries to unite all this in its music.
Without any pretension of sounding innovative, the band performs a punchy sound, focusing on feeling rather than technical virtuosity. Classic and epic Heavy metal with the soul of rock 'n' roll.
Optionally and proudly independent, one of the group major goals is to show that is possible to achieve a high-level work, absolutely professional and independent in the underground.
ABOUT FORGING METAL
The day of April 25, 2009, marks the beginning of a new era for Hazy Hamlet. After some years through problems and with a renewed group, it was finally released on this date the much awaited and struggled debut, Forging Metal.
The album took four years to be completed since it was idealized and contains five reworked tracks from the earlier materials and five previously unreleased tracks. Musically this mix is the perfect transition from the force of power metal of previous line-ups to the punch of the classic metal preferred by the current one.
Although the production has been independent, the band strove to achieve a result of quality but with a vintage and organic sound, differently from the dry sound of current productions. To achieve this, the option was for the predominance of old timbres, like valve guitar amps, "fatter" bass drums rather than "clicked" ones, analog synthesizers and a lot of effects.
The lyrics do not differ too much from the metal cliche found in many other groups, ranging from epic themes to the praise of heavy metal itself. However, Hazy Hamlet tries to go a bit further, using many metaphors and mythological elements to carry out some of its thoughts about power, war and human degradation.
As for the cover, the album brings the image of Nordic father god Odin forging a sword, accompanied by his ravens Hugin (Thought) and Munin (Memory), and his spear Gungnir (at the background). The suspended chain recalls the days when Odin hanged from Yggdrasil to gain the dead and runes knowledge, reflecting the maturity the band has achieved during this decade, and the forging of elements, such as hammer and anvil, all power and passion Hazy Hamlet creates its music.
For the artwork, the band always wanted a strong and organic illustration, as in the old vinyl disks. The choice then for the work was Brazilian professional illustrator Celso Mathias, also a great lover of fantastic art, and one who had never had the opportunity to paint a heavy metal album cover. Unlike the contemporary albums artworks, which have images created by computer graphics, Forging Metal was conceived by a painting in acrylic, and the artist surpassed all group expectations on the concepts that have been submitted.
