Jim Felhofer and Tom Dupuis first met in the summer of 1990 when they both worked at the same publishing company. They shared an appreciation of the harmonies of The Beatles and Jayhawks, the musicianship of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the melodic pop sounds of Nick Lowe and R.E.M, and the storytelling qualities of Steve Earl and Willie Nelson.
After different variations of band lineups through the years, they eventually decided to pursue their interest in writing and recording their own original songs. They began purchasing home recording equipment, Felhofer converted his basement into what would eventually become Fret Boy Studios, and the duo went to work.
Felhofer and Dupuis now call themselves The Narrators, and their first CD, Chapter One, is undoubtedly the truest form of independent music. They wrote the song’s, played all the instruments used in the recordings, and mixed each song to produce the finished tracks.
Completely self produced and self distributed, Chapter One represents the future of music – independent musicians producing and distributing their own music - made possible by the evolution of digital recording technology and power of the Internet to reach music lovers around the world. Enjoy!
