Sometime back in the late '70s, Iggy Pop and Debbie Harry fucked each others brains out as Queen blared on the hi-fi. Today...their sexy-hot rock-child is fronting the mega-loud Los Angeles four-piece Killola.
That isn't documented fact, but it might as well be. Frontwoman Lisa Rieffel spits attitude, swagger, and one hell of a vocal range over what is the equivalent of the Big-Bang hooked up to a Marshall full-stack, and set to the tempo of a growling drum beat.
The Los Angeles rock squad is only two years young and their signature high energy sounds and exhilarating live shows glow brightly in a dark scene that is crowded with low-energy rock wannabes. Killola is a dominant Los Angeles band and highly experienced on the road. From Austin to Vegas and the entire West Coast, they are electrifying the ears and eyes of every local scene they pleasure.
Killola's sonic engine is fueled by swaggering, distinct vocal work and genre-defying soul-punk numbers that blur the fringes of garage rock and sophisticated bravado... all set amongst freewheeling stage presence and heavy guitar/rhythmic jams.
Rounding out the rock spectacle is an all-star lineup of talented musicmen. Dan "D'Son" Grody (drums, vocals) is like a technical rhythm-surgeon. His Dr. Jekyl alternate-persona just happens to be ANIMAL on 5000 CCs of pure rock energy. Johnny Dunn (bass guitar, vocals) acts as a Rhythm-and-Tone Trooper, keeping the songs fluid and constant as they leap across boundaries and genres. Grody and Dunn are a vacuum-tight alliance in the stop-and-go valleys of Killola's musical geography. Mike Ball (lead guitar, vocals) is Rieffel's partner in melody, lending provocative and soulful hooks with fuzzy-blue undertones that absolutely explode at all the right times. Ball's guitar sings, and his amplifier howls, all in perfect control and sexy arrogance.
Each member of Killola completely owns his respective instrument, all the while complimenting Rieffel's shimmering leads with engaging and spot-on back-up vocals.
Deaf people love watching Killola. Blind folks have never danced harder. Everyone else just screams.
