Tian brings a bold sound that transcends genre, style, and class. The richness of his music speaks with influences of the 60s and 70s soul, rock, funk, and yet, relevant to today. ""There is so much here that will feel familiar, but at the same time this is a record no one has ever heard before. “I want people to experience this album like they are getting a whole new side of something they have always loved”, says Tian
Driven by an emotional core that materializes in unique soulful riffs and soaring vocals. Tian says, “I don't want to quote the people who have influenced me, but you can never help but see where I am coming from.” That attitude has awarded Tian with an opportunity to make the record of his dreams.
Like all great records, the seeds of ACE OF SWORDS came from a personal epiphany. Tian spent many years in New York searching for a musical home. Unfortunately, his desire to have a large band and groove infused funk style that was not readily embraced by the industry. “A lot of parallels were drawn about my music, and I would get meetings, but the minute I would sit down with an exec, they would want me to change… be a clone of whoever was hot or dancing in a choreographed line. …it wasn’t me,”
From his home in California, Tian continues, “… then I met my wife and started writing about how I felt. She believed in me, and got everyone else to believe in me. Slowly, I began to believe in myself, and that is how I got here. There was something about being away from the only city I knew, something about starting a new life that really fueled the passion on this album,” he says.
With ACE OF SWORDS, Tian emerges triumphant. With its funk/soul charged rock, its brazen riffs and heartfelt lyrics, Tian delivers a revealing album that stands as a tribute to the basics of life. “Nothing B 4 U” the first single from ACE OF SWORDS, is a groove-laden rock anthem. From the song’s gentle opening to the pulsating drums and guitar swells, it imprints itself onto the listener’s psyche.
On “U R My Woman”, Tian celebrates the consuming fire of love and passion. He makes love not only to the female listener but seduces the audience. “Somedays” is about every man’s struggle transitioning from boyhood to adulthood. Tian’s journey brought him to Los Angeles, where he would find his sound, his band, and Studio C at the legendary Paramount Studios in Hollywood where ACE OF SWORDS would come to life.
