My name is Jonathon Vandergriff, but most people just call me Jon. I took piano lessons from age 5 to 14, but quit when my piano teacher saw that I wanted to write film music. I'm a senior at Rockhurst University, majoring in computer science and mathematics. I have no formal composition training or education. I have learned to write by listening, tran_scription, and hopefully, some talent. My influences are Danny Elfman, Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Camille Saint Saens, Leonard Bernstein, and John Williams.

Pastel Robots
My favorite "sound" in all of music is what I call a "candied apple" sound. It's a twist of the light hearted, quirky, and evil. It reminds me of pastel red, green, blue, yellow, and purple houses...suburbia on a spring day, but there's a dark twist to everything. The sound is truly unique. It's not to any particular film... Imagine hundreds of tiny pastel colored robots from the 1950's scurrying about the floor as they construct some evil machine, whose purpose is maniacal and wholly un-good.

Portals - Return of the Ghostbusters
This is the climactic showdown between the villain and our heroes, the Ghostbusters. Theremins! It's dark, light, and chock full of my candied apple sound.
