Laura Comfort
'Laura (Comfort) is a delicate, shimmering artist with an eye for detail and a measured twist with a contemporary tune…One to watch.’ September 2004, Musician magazine.
Growing up in America, Laura sang in school choirs and traveled with an a cappella group around New England, before winning The East Coast Battle of the Bands while studying at Harvard College. This led to television appearances including The Today Show and Eye Witness News. After her first taste of success, she was inspired to learn guitar and explore her skills as a songwriter, while focusing on her solo career in London.
Laura’s first single, ‘Let The Music Take Control’, released by Plaza Records, was championed by BBC Radio One’s Dave Pearce and Scott Mills. Reaching Top 30 in the Music Week Pop Chart and Top 10 in the 7 magazine’s Club Chart, it was bolstered by her appearances at many of London’s leading live venues, and serious regional airplay on stations including Galaxy FM, Surf FM and Kiss FM.
Laura second single, ‘Mountain’, produced with the Top 5 Chart act The Cuban Boys, also gained a huge following among dj’s across the country, including Kiss FM’s Graham Gold, IDJ’s Danny Slade, and Frankie Valentine in Ibiza. Laura contributed further to the rave reviews with her live performance on the Hollywood Yacht at the Cannes Film Festival. (‘Mountain’ was released by One Trybal Records on ‘Punta dell’Est summer selection’ and other compilations).
After chart success, Laura recorded the more soulful ‘Addicted’, described by DIVA magazine as “a smooth r’n’b-flavoured love song with a sprinkle of urban cool…a charming understated corker of a song.” DJ magazine added it is a ‘vibey trippy soulster’…with ‘lilting guitars and delicate vocals…it has underground appeal with crossover potential.’ (‘Addicted’ was released by Energy Production on ‘Salvacion Ibiza chill-out session’ and other compilations.)
The success of ‘Addicted’ inspired Laura to record a twelve-track album of her own compositions. In ‘Nature’s Child’, Laura has gone back to her roots with a fusion of pop, folk, country, jazz and blues. As IDJ wrote, her songs are “poppy and catchy yet melancholy at the same time.” Since its release in November 2004, ‘Nature’s Child’ has received airplay on over 15 major BBC regional stations, and 18 commercial and associated stations around the country.
