Elliott Miles McKinley’s music has been performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Commissions include those from the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Music Society, the SOLI Chamber Music Ensemble, the Duquesne University Contemporary Ensemble, and the Martinu String Quartet. His work has been featured on international festivals including the Mid-American Music Festival at Bowling Green State University, the Ernest Bloch Music Festival, and the Olomouc Spring Festival in the Czech Republic. McKinley is a recipient of a number of awards and fellowships including a BMI Student Composer Award, a fellowship at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, several grants from Meet the Composer, and an SCI/ASCAP award. Recently a new orchestral work was premiered by the Minnesota Orchestra under the direction of Osmo Vanska.

Born in 1969, McKinley received a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from New England Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music degree in Composition from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in Composition from the University of Minnesota. Among principal teachers are John McNiel in jazz performance studies and composers Malcolm Peyton, Alex Lubet, Douglas Geers, David Gompper, Noel Zahler, George Wilson, Michael Daugherty, and William Bolcom.
