The Good Ideas Turn Your Crank
Stepping into Ontario's independent music scene with fresh perspective and motivation, the good ideas are primed to challenge the notion of musical boundaries and traditionally manufactured constructs. That being said, the good ideas hold true to the sensible tradition of forward thinking artists releasing uncompromising albums packed with quirky funky progressive movements, grandiose classically inspired arrangements, carefully crafted floating melodies and insightful, honest, clever lyrical barbs poking holes in the cheaply polished leather of grim corporate skin.
On March 9th, 2006, the good ideas released their official debut album, Turning the Crank, in partnership with activist artist collective, Trinket Trance and rising experimental art-rock indie label, Crony Records. The album was recorded in the summer of 2005 at TS Studios in Toronto. Dov Tiefenbach, star of CBC's summer sitcom pilot, This Space for Rent, and notable Toronto member of art-rock acts Theresa's Sound-world and Trucks Leaving, served as engineer and co-producer for the album, and also filled the temporarily injury-vacated drummer's position for three tracks. The album was mastered at Silverbirch studios by the talented Andy Krehm.
The packaging and insert for Turning the Crank was manufactured by Warren's Waterless printing, ensuring a high degree of environmental responsibility by using %100 post consumer recycled stock and Warren's unique waterless printing technique which eliminates the chemical water waste which accompanies common offset printing practices and is recognized by environmental organizations around the globe.
On April 21st, the Good Ideas participate in the first of the Trinket Trance music series, hosted at Toronto’s Cameron House, with Sing that Yell that Spell and Trucks Leaving. Hamilton’s official album release date was April 10th at the Underground with The Royal School Series and Lifestory:monologue. February brought about the completion of the good ideas’ Turning Ontario’s Crank tour with a string of successful shows in Oshawa, Peterborough and London. An odd whirl of a press campaign in the works by Trinket Trance will hit print, radio, and the digital world, to support sporadic event performances over the months preceding summer.
