I was born in Scotland, grew up there before moving to England to study. Studied English and American Literature at Lancaster University, formed a band, started to get 'serious' about music and moved to Manchester to fulfill the R n R dream. To live I sold flowers, sold books in Waterstones (actually I hid in a corner reading them...), and in my Dolly Parton years cleaned tables in The Royal Northern College of music, with Tim Smith, the wonderful drummer and beautiful spirit of our band Sleepwalker. Released a (highly acclaimed) single on Uglyman, played gigs with important friends, and in 2001 moved to Portugal because of a car accident. It's a long story...
In Portugal I released an EP in 2003, an album in 2005, launched the album Incandescent Night Stories, at a wee festival called Timpano in May 2005, which I also co-organised (with some great shows from Antony and the Johnsons and Micah P Hinson...amongst others) and here we are in 2006 with, excuse me for thinking this, but, well, a great acoustic mini album called The Ballad of the Stark Miner. There will be shows to follow, in fact we did a very graceful one on June 10th, and the line-up was and will be 4 people playing; piano, cello, acoustic guitar, and a male and female voice. It's definitely not Rock. Is that ok?
