I've finally put something up for wide distribution on line (iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, MySpace Music, MediaNet, eMusic, Zune, Nokia, Shockhound, Napster, Thumbplay, and IMVU). "Daddy Was a Rounder", words and music by Kevin Beamish and Johnny Stephen Zawacki, is a rock-a-billy type song. The entire performance is just me, utilizing my Mac and GarageBand software. Search by johnny z, or Daddy Was a Rounder. Check it out & grab a copy for your portable player.
Long before MTV began it’s very successful series of ""unplugged"" specials, Johnny Z was performing his acoustic skiffle music in clubs from Michigan to New England. After years as a solo performance artist, he’s now the guiding influence of the acoustic ""neo-skiffle"" quartet, Johnny Z and the Spotlights. Their seamless 3-part harmonies are accompanied by bass, harmonica, dumbek and acoustic guitar (naturally). The term ""skiffle"" refers to folk or country music played by performers who use unconventional instruments or percussion, such as kazoos, washboards or jugs. During the period when the Quarrymen (later to become The Beatles) came together, acoustic guitars were incorporated into the sound. These groups were commonly referred to as ""skiffle"" groups and proliferated throughout England, during the late 1950's and early 1960's. It is from these roots that Johnny Z's music has come. He has taken his ""neo-siffle"" sound a step further by flavoring the traditional folk/country base with r&b, blues and jazz, though maintaining the acoustic ""skiffle"" sound. Along the way, Johnny Z’s developed an ability to articulate his thoughts and combine it with melody in a most appealing manner. His writing is new and fresh, yet instantly familiar. He’s allied himself with some outstandingly talented musicians, who assist him in presenting his songs. It’s the combination of these elements that have seen fruition in the release of his ""En Route"", and ""Skiffle"" compact discs.

A Cowboy Tune (alternate harmonica version)
Originally released on Johnny Z's "Skiffle" CD, with it's slack key lead guitar feel, this version gets back to the roots of real cowboy tunes and Tom Loewe's great harmonica musicianship. Also recorded at Tim Houser's Uptown Studios, In Owosso MI, shortly after the original version.

Daddy Was a Rounder
An internet-only release. Performance, recording, editing by Johnny Z at his home studio. It's a true low tech rock-a-billy tune, eschewing a high end condenser mic for a built in iMac mic.
