""Since I started, I've played in bands fronted by other people. I've always played the supporting role, the guy behind the scenes helping to push the project forward. I put a lot of myself into these projects..."" Each one of these experiences has proven to be invaluable. ""I have learned so much from every person I've played with. I've been the drummer, the guitar player, the producer. I've worked with gospel groups and punk bands, and everything in between. I have a lot to draw on when I'm working on my own stuff.""
For the last two plus years, he has been a contributing member of guitar phenom/rock songsmith Justin King's band. Justin got the attention of Epic Records and inked a deal shortly thereafter. This opened a few doors for Ehren. ""I've made some friends in the industry and gave them demos of the songs I've been writing. They've all encouraged me to find ways to get these songs out into the world."" Ehren was recently featured at a Billboard artist showcase at the Core Club in Manhattan, which will be covered in an upcoming issue of the magazine.
'Bottlerocket' is his first release, a six song EP produced and performed entirely by himself. The songs were recorded in studios, basements, and bathrooms up and down the West Coast during time off from Justin's band. Comparisons range from Tom Petty to John Mayer. ""I can hear that. This isn't avante-garde art rock we're talking about. There's a history and tradition in what I do."" Several of the songs on 'Bottlerocket' were recorded during the time Justin's band was working with producer Rob Schnapf. ""Rob's aesthetic definitely rubbed off on me. These aren't perfect, glossy recordings. They are moments in time. I really wanted to capture the essence of the songs without worrying about how they might sound next to the latest Justin Timberlake record. It's DIY for sure...the first pressing is on CDR!""
