Spread Your Evil Wings and Fly is in part Kochalka's response to the current state of global affairs. While many of the songs on the album reach giddy heights of silliness, it is a dark album; death and drugs are recurring themes. But it is also first and foremost darkly comic. Kochalka has managed to find room for a tender, beautiful ballad inspired by the breakup of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (“Britney's Silver Can”), and brought to life by her current trials and tribulations. “This is how we Rock in America” starts off being about how much Kochalka's band members all hate each other, but quickly turns into a patriotic anthem worthy to be played on any aircraft carrier on its way to war. This album is the masterpiece of his musical career. It also rocks harder than any James Kochalka Superstar album yet.
Kochalka was nominated for two 2006 Harvey Awards for his comics work. He received a ""Best Online Comics Work"" nomination for his daily diary comic strip American Elf (americanelf.com ) and a ""Special Award For Humor in Comics"" nomination for his SuperF*ckers comic book series.
