HISTORY:
Back in the dark old days of 2005, hero and founder of Swimming Underground Rhys Clayton was toiling away in the slimy world of Sydney's underground Kings Cross sex shops. Feeling the type of angst that only graveyard shift work can inspire he decided to release his frustrations by making his own recordings. After recruiting a rhythm section through the Music Media, Swimming Underground emerged from the darkness as a rock n roll force to be reckoned with on the inner city live scene. The band has just released their self funded EP ‘Swimming Underground’ and so the story continues.
SOUNDS LIKE:
The eccentric sounds of Swimming Underground has been described as a cross between the Cure and Pavement. Drawing inspiration from lead singer Rhys’ internment in a sex store, the songs delve into depraved subject matters of masturbation, sleep deprivation, and that dirtiest of all subjects – politics. Delivered with a unique vocal styling that combines the raw emotion of Billy Corgan with the snarling energy of Johnny Rotten, it can be guaranteed that Swimming Underground sounds like nothing else. These boys Psychedelic, Lo- Fi, New Wave Punk Metal.
