The band Merrill is led by singer/songwriter Chris Merrill, and the group manages a soulful past with a blend of rhythm and rock to form a sound that transcends categories. The band's music spans from rock to pop, blues to soul, and everywhere in between. There really are no limits to the kind of music they write.

Chris began playing music in elementary school but stopped for many years when he hit middle school. It was during his sophomore year at Southern Oregon University where things started to take shape. First he took a beginning piano class from a very talented Russian concert pianist. He then started singing with friends as a way to impress girls at parties. Unfortunately it never really took off. When Chris turned 21, he started singing in karaoke bars where he noticed people responded well to his singing. It was those experiences that led him to start pursuing the idea of a career in music. Less than a year later he picked up a guitar, and with nothing but a chord book and some tabs, taught himself how to play. The rest, as they say, is history...

The Band made it to the second round of the Bodog National Battle of the Bands contest in 2006 before they had to bow out because they lost their bass player. They have received airplay in Seattle on The End( 107.7) for their song "Wonderful Nothing".

The song Intervention received the Rocking Track in Pop Rock award, week of 25th of June, 2007. And the Song Back 4 More was selected as The Track Of The Day for July 28th, 2007. The song also has recieved two other awards; Feel Good Track in Pop Rock, week of 16th of July, 2007 and Rocking Track in Pop Rock, week of 2nd of July, 2007.

Though very ambitious in it's pursuits of touring, the group's roots are in Portland. Chris has worked professionally with several schools in different aspects, including: admissions, student development, academic counseling, and helping to promote education. He also formerly owned and operated Synergy Music, a media production company in Gresham.
