Originally known as "The Steve James Band", Shortcut2Freedom has been rockin for the past 2 years. The band started out with Adam Kasold at guitar and Shaun Stever manning the Bass. The band borrowed singers and drummers until they settled with Gilbert Truong. Once Gilbert joined the band, it got the consistency it needed at the drums position. The band played and recorded as a 3 member group for about 4 months before they knew something was missing. Shaun Stever, originally a guitarist, was stuck playing the Bass just because they had no other option at the time. Also with the lack of a singer, Shaun and Adam were both stuck doing the vocals which limited to what they could accomplish on their respective instruments. Christmas break 2006, the band adds Will Henry, bassist from Gilbert's old band. Will adds a little funk style to the rock center that is Shortcut2Freedom. Matt Gordon was added to be the singer and also bring a great stage presence. He has performed and sung in numerous plays throughout his lifetime. Shaun Stever went back to guitar and Adam and Shaun continue to feed off each other to create great guitar riffs. Some of the weight for the songwriting came off of the shoulders of the original members as well with the new additions. While Adam and Shaun mainly focus on the guitar, Matt has written some amazing lyrics. Besides "Better Place" written in memory of a friend of Shaun's who passed away, "Mutiny", "Perfect Baby", and "Minstrel Girl" were all written by Matt Gordon with little help from the rest of the band. Will Henry created the great Bassline from Minstrel Girl and even added a little flavor by playing "You Are My Sunshine" as an intro to the epic song.
