Hangman was originally formed in spring 1997 by Mikael & Petrus to play Heavy Metal like Mercyful Fate / King Diamond. Timo "Wursti" Karhunen (Firevolt) joined the band as a drummer and heavy rehearsing started.

In 1998 we hit the studio without a bass player or a singer. Eeka Mäkynen (Design 19) helped us out in both areas and we got our first ever demo ready. Eeka didn't want to stay in the band so again were we out of a singer and a bass player. That did not slow us down. We wrote new songs and got Jani Katajamäki on vocals.

1999 we hit the studio again with better songs and almost as a complete band. Mikael & Petrus played basses on this studio session.

We booked ourselves into a concert which was a debut gig for all of us. We took Topi Rantanen to help us out for the basses and the gig was great. The audience loved us and everything was cool. After the second gig Topi disappeared and we haven't seen the guy since. Back to square one. We still wrote new songs and rehearsed a lot.

In late 1999 or early 2000 Timo left the band, just before we got a new bass player. That was the time when we decided to call it off.

Late autumn 2005 the band relocated and reunited with only one original member, Mikael. The first line-up for the new Hangman was: Mikael - Lead Guitar, Jani - Lead Guitar, August - Vocals, Albert - Drums. No bassist (again). New material was heavier and more mature. Just before we hit the studio for a brand new promo Jani left the band and we were out of twin guitar. Now we have two original members after Petrus rejoined the band. Bass on this new recording was played by Melek T.

In a month and a half we were introduced to Tomas. This young "thunderfinger" showed his talents in audition and was immediately signed for the band.

Now we are ready to make things happen! Promotion and live playing is our main target for the rest of the year 2006. Including a video shootage for one song. We are all very passionate about our band and will do our best to give people something special, something beautiful, something spooky...

Some line-up changes again. A silent Hanging of August took place in early december 2006 though we were getting ourselves ready for the studio to record our debut album. In few weeks we saw an add of a vocalist and contacted him asap. We arranged an audition for him and that was it....
