Chris Soulis (singer/ guitar) met Mike Matthews (drummer), and Mark Murray (bass) in the spring of 2007 and Idaho, Alaska was born. Within a month's time they had recreated 10 plus songs previously written by Soulis, and had added Mitch Snider (lead guitar) to the line-up. They have since played half a dozen shows around the region, recorded a full length album ("Kissin' With The Devil," due out in November), added a fifth member in Keith Birchfield (trumpet/ keys) and received a healthy local following. In the words Dave Condra of the Nougat Magazine, "Idaho, Alaska is a band from Lexington (KY) who play a heart-on-sleeve form of indie-rock comparative to Dinosaur Jr. or Modest Mouse, but I doubt either of those bands ever experimented with slide whistle and kazoo." Condra is correct when he says Idaho, Alaska plays "...a heart-on-sleeve form of indie-rock...", but there's nothing cheesy or trite about this music. Instead heavy melodic guitars, pounding drums, steady bass lines, and screaming to mellow and back vocals provide the musical backdrop for the ever-honest story telling lyrics. Idaho, Alaska is here to stay.
